Well it is time to put up or shut up. Here are the week one games. What you think?

Asheville at Franklin
Reynolds at West Forsyth
Enka at Owen
North Buncombe at Pisgah
Roberson at North Henderson
McDowell at RS Central
Davidson Day at Erwin

my picks...

Asheville by 6... Tough First game for the cougar coach to try out the spread. If the officiating is not too bad the cougars should win this.

Reynolds by 7...I don't know much about W Forsyth but the Rockets have been hyped to be the best team in the MAC so they should win this one.

Enka by 7...One of the few games the Jets will have a chance to win

Roberson by 3...Roberson should never lose this game but they find a way. Will this year be different?

McDowell by 10...RSC always has a few athletes but I think McDowell sneaks one out here

Erwin by 1...Davidson Day is a very good private school coming off a undefeated season. This will be a very tough 1st week game for my Warriors.

I think West Forsyth will beat ACR this year. It was a close game last year and West Forsyth is usually the best school in the Winston Salem area. They also have the #18 overall player in the country with 50+ offers lining up at DE for them as well as a 10th grade RB with D1 offers. I will go with West Forsyth by 10.

Asheville by 3 should be a great game though
Erwin by 7 I heard that Erwin really got it handed to them in a scrimmage against Tuscola, but then again it is a scrimmage and there are always a lot of moving parts.
Enka by 10
RSC by 14
TCR by 14

I didn't realize that was the case with West Forsyth. I was at Erwin scrimmage. The Warriors scored 7 times to Tuscola 3. They looked like the need work up front on defense but could score at will if they wanted too. I don't put much in to scrimmages either.

Yeah West Forsyth made it to the 3rd round of the 4AA playoffs last season, so they are always stout.

If you are counting the 10 plays vs 10 plays, maybe. Game situation, Tuscola outscored them 3 TD's to TD and FG.

10 play deal was erwin -5 tuscola-2 game deal was as bluevols said. the mountaineers fumbled inside the 20 on their 3rd possession. scoring on3 out of 4 possessions in game situation. but it was just a scrimmage both teams will get better as the season wears on good luck to both.

Just being realistic here guys, but I think TC will be the only MAC team to win Friday night. On a positive note, Asheville, Erwin and Reynolds need a bloody nose right now and I think this will wake some guys up and make them better for next week.

Id be curious to know if in the history of wnc football if Roberson has ever won a game the same night Asheville Erwin and Reynolds all lost.

It probably happened some time back in the Mike Houston Era. He has moved up big time. Won the Southern Conference last year including a win of South Carolina.

Not going to get in a pissing match over this but first half of that scrimmage Erwin dominated. The second half Tuscola looked better. You can't throw out the entire first half because it didn't go your way. In a real game I think Erwin wins 9 out of 10 times. Then again, it is a scrimmage so who cares right..

I gave you the stats . I don't think I implied or threw anything out.
I think your scrambling cause the Warriors didn't play up to YOUR expectations ! Good luck the rest of the year.

Well Congrats, you won half a scrimmage. Erwin better go ahead and call it a year;)... Although we looked much better against a much better team in Freedom than Tuscola so I am totally confused now...lol

Quit hijacking the MAC thread Tuscola fans! You're not playing a MAC team (yet). At least wait until next year when you will be in the MAC. We'll see how your thumping your chest when the Panthers come to town to take yet another WNCAC crown. BTW, are you running the same 2 plays this year?

Franklin 27 - Asheville 21

Just read an article that stated Davidson Day has 6 class of 17 players with d1 offers on defense alone.

Uh, Erwin started it. Can't allow them to control the narrative. I fully expected Erwin to lay the hammer down on us. They did burn our pass D but that is nothing new.

I think Erwin wins. Big difference in the NCIHSAA and what the Warriors play on a regular basis. Whatever shortcomings they had against us will get fixed.

Sorry I got side tracked with the Tuscola fans. Here is a article about Erwin's opponent Davidson Day. I'm not sure what coach Sexton was thinking scheduling like this two years in a row. It's good to play quality opponents but not every non conference opponent has to be that way. I think it wears your team out and demoralize them by conference time. Not making any excuses ahead of time, just saying I don't get it.

i thjnk tc may be the only mac team to win friday too but i think asheville has best chance of the big 3 to get a win

Probably the same problem Franklin and Murphy has- nobody nearby will play you because you will probably beat them. The "weak sisters" don't want to be embarrassed so they aren't going to schedule you. You have to fill the hole with somebody.

I'm pretty sure having 3-4 regular season losses gets you a 10 seed too.
Eventually playing the good teams will pay off. Coaches don't make out a schedule thinking about what kind of seed they will have come playoff time. They prepare their team with the hope of playing tough teams will make them better. Likewise you need daily competition and game competition to make you a better player. Then you hit the playoffs knowing you have prepared the best to be the best that you can be.

Did it help you out last year?

Playing a few good teams is one thing, but playing teams like Ootlewha, Science Hill, and DD can hurt your teams mentality and also kill your chance at a decent playoff seed. I would like to see Erwin play a few teams like say Freedom or Burns. These are quality teams that we can compete with and beat on a given night. If you get a low seed in the playoffs you will end up getting a playoff game against a high seed on the road 1st rd. I don't see any coach wanting that. I can understand getting rid of teams like Madison, but you need a few cupcakes to boost your teams morale.

Nope. We got lucky to get a home game but we had to play a really good Cuthberson team.
Last year when the initial round one playoff matchups came out it had us two playing each other, instead they changed it to where we both played better opponents. I believe its good to have one really good out of conference opponent and then have the other games be most likely winnable. Look at Crest, by their own admission they say they get tired sometimes of playing schools like Roberson or teams they know they are gonna beat the hell out of and yet a weak schedule hasnt hampered them. On the flip side, look at Erwin the last couple years, they have played some powerhouse teams in the regular season and gotten NOTHING out of it except another loss. I personally would rather be 10-0 (10-1) by dropping a game we lost by 55 and get a 1-2 seed than be 8-2 (8-3) and get a 12 seed and have to play an Oklahoma bound quarterback in round 1 and lose in the first round. Mike Sexton kind of went in the opposite direction in terms of scheduling. In 2011ish people would give yall crap about the cupcake schedule, well its not a cupcake schedule anymore and im not so sure it benefits you.

Last year was the first year Erwin has played better quality teams. Yes they didn't win as many because of that and it is to be expected. You can't have it both ways men. You have step up to get better. And BTW BD Warrior: Erwin has not stepped on the field yet with Davidson Day and you think they are too good to play? Come on man, you gotta keep the faith. Go Warriors!

i agree ya never know till u get on the field rewin mite surprise davidson day i saw on the state wide projections that guy picked davidson by 32 i doubt that will happen

This is exactly what I am saying. Getting beat like we did last season to Ootlewha and Science Hill does nothing for your team but hurt their confidence. Mike Sexton really did go from one extreme to another.

Ceingle, anyone on here can tell you that I support Erwin more than anyone but I just get a bad feeling about this game and non conference schedule. Mtn Heritage should be our easiest game and they are no slouch by any means. I hope I am wrong and Erwin come out of this without a loss, but I honestly don't see that happening.

BD-I get you. Just want them to continue like the last eight years. See you at Kerr Stadium, GO WARRIORS!

Don't get me wrong, Erwin should be a really good team but their schedule wont show it I am afraid. I am excited that it is football time though. Safe travels tonight my friend
