Did the Lexington football job open down in Davidson County? A friend noticed a post for the position on Max Preps.

Maybe our Thomasville friends could give us some insight. From the outside it looks like you have some pieces in place to be successful but discipline looks to be an issue. Good job for a young coach looking to build something imo. Comments?

It's official now as it's in the Lexington paper.

Seems Henderson is burned out. Not a bad move though he just wasn't the right guy overall for the job. It was in such an utter mess when he took it over any kind of mediocrity was a step up. Once he got rid of that ridiclously hard non conference schedule in 2013/14 they improved, but they just didn't do it nowhere near enough the past couple of years. Thomasville was floundering then and they coulda took control again between the city schools but they didn't come anywhere close to doing so.

CP seems to think that Devore Holman might get it but he's not the right pick for this job. After what happened at West Caldwell I don't see anyone hiring him for an HC job for a while unless they are desperate. I don't think he'd fit too good.

Lexington needs someone who is willing to make them more physical and maintain their behavior. That's their biggest fault in the films I've seen of them. They got great speed but don't like to hit, especially when a team is bigger than them. That's the same way it was when we played them when Whitman was there in his 2nd run. If Lexington could ever get that physicality back they had under Deal those few years and in their good years they can be a quite annoying team to play year in and out. If not they can be near the bottom, no room for error in such a top heavy conference. They need to do their homework. A pure rookie might not would work ( Graham in his bomb of a year,) and someone from out of state hasn't worked either (Gaddis, they both wasted that RB they had those few years.) They need someone who wants to be old school and make it a solid program like what Pinyan did at Salisbury. They need some consitency and someone to believe in them, kids play hard for coaches like that. When a coach is there for a step up in the future they can tell that too.

Hope Lexington has a nice run; they deserve it.

It could be a great chance to hire someone awesome. It could be a great chance to hire a complete dud. Lexington... you never can tell what they’ll do.

Discipline...discipline...discipline. On and off the field. Hire someone who shows respect, but demands and deserves the same. Programs such as Thomasville and Lexington can only rise so far with athletes, schemes and schedules. Lexington especially will be pummeled by the presence of the new charter school. The Point in High Point is expanding. Dwindling numbers for both systems are very likely.
I would suggest successful head coaching experience is a must. And some creativity with pay for head coach and faculty staff.
I can’t say for sure what will work for Lexington, but the formula above is working well so far for Thomasville. Stability will determine whether it continues to work.

Hope he gets a shot. To OC's point they a few years back they had an excellent coach that brought discipline and integrity to the program but he didn't kiss enough butt. I sure hope they learned their lesson.
Young guy. Been an OC in Guilford county for a few years and score alot of points while calling plays..... and he knows alot about davidson county football.

So how many kids do you think this Charter School is taking from Lexington each year? Is the Charter School offering sports programs? Whatever happened to the year-round school talk for the Lexington School System?

Currently the new Charter is only like K-4 students but will add each year. They have over 300 acres to build on also as they expand. Will eventually hurt everybody within the 25 mile radius and especially Davidson County Schools, Thomasville City and Lexington.

They won’t have much effect on Thomasville yet. Too hard for most parents to get to. But if they do like The Point in High Point and start sending out buses, that’s a different story. Resegregation by another name.

The issue now isn't lost athletes it is lost numbers which means less funding which means less teaching positions!!

Will they eventually have football and basketball when they expand?

Many open up with soccer, basketball and baseball/softball and expand as they add ages.

The charter, Davidson Charter Academy, is chartered for grades K-8. If they were to expand past that, they’d need to revise their charter with the state. Not an easy process, but obviously, it is doable.

It will be interesting to see if they choose to offer middle school sports in the years to come, once they have middle schoolers, and if the county and city schools will choose to play them.

Obviously, the time for that decision is a few years away. But it’s hard to believe that the organizers of the charter school would stop at grade 8. Parents have many reasons for choosing this school. Those reasons don’t disappear in grade 9.

Can someone explain why Lexington, with all the resources, their own school board and feeder systems, have never reached the level of consistency of some of the other one system schools? Granted Coach Deal did a great job the year he was there, but his run was in the playoffs. Gary Whitman did not have the same success he had at HPC at Lexington. And Lexington has had some D1 players over the last 10 years. You would think, this could be like a Mooresville, Richmond County, Clevland County type situation. They want to keep hiring coaches but are they helping the HC that they do hire with the right coaches in the building, putting the kids in the weight room during the day etc. You cannot have high expectations if you are not doing your part.

That is the part no one in the stands or on these boards sees. All everyone sees are the playcalling and what is put on the field. When you have Ledford and ND that gets the majority of their kids in the weight room during the day and now Thomasville, you cannot expect to compete with those guys if you are trying to chase down kids after school and they are in AAU practice, baseball practice, track etc. And if all your coaches are not on the same page as to lifting and getting stronger in season, it is another problem. Small schools that share athletes need a weight program for all athletes period!!!

Lot of politics in Lexington, and changing to an elected school board has only made it worse. In 2007, the city leaders convinced Davidson Vision to do a study on merger, expecting it to show that it was a no brainer. It actually showed the opposite, at least financially.
There is very little community support for Lexington City Schools, as evidenced by the large number of students choosing Davidson Charter. It flows downhill and includes athletics.

When Lexington’s very own mayor won’t send his kid to his city’s school system, it doesn’t help spark confidence.

But he’s a tool. His opinion should actually mean nothing.

Of the legitimate movers and shakers in Lexington, i’d Guess its about half and half between who sends their kids to Lexington City Schools and those who head to private schools in the general area (Westchester, Wesleyan, Forsyth Country Day, High Point Christian, etc)

This post is spot on. It is so very obvious when Ledford or North plays a team who doesn’t have their kids in the weight room. Night and day difference.

Oak Grove is right there with them. They’ve got a nice weight room and they aren’t afraid to use it!

So why would a new coach move in town and eventually send his kids to one of the private schools? That would not be a good look either. How many teacher's kids go to another school? I guess the question is, can a coach come in and have a 5-year plan and expect to improve each year or will it be too many hoop and hurdles to jump through and over to get this done? Was it some talent at the middle school?

Good questions. My bet is that most of the teachers keep their kids in the system. Money thing. Lexington’s middle school program is weak right now. Way behind North, Ledford, Central and Oak Grove, maybe more. They need support from the community. It needs to mean something to play for Lexington again. Not sure it can be done on a consistent basis.
