Was at the school the other day. I wonder about some of these... 63 for example... Most are of course WNCHSAA titles but it really shows how big a power Lexington was at one time...

33
34
39
40
54
56
58
59
63
67
85
86

I just was wondering why 63 is there since Asheboro won the WNCHSAA title if I'm not mistaken... Thoughts?

Also can Lexington ever be a power again?

No idea why 1963 would be there. I think Lexington and Salisbury may have been playing 4A in the NCHSAA that year.

Remember when Lexington had Joe McIntosh (played at NC State) as a great RB for the title `teams of '85 and '86...saw them beat Burlington Williams in the title game one of those years (in Lexington, can't remember which year).....that place was absolutely packed and overflowing.....sad to see the decline of that program over the last 25 to 30 years...........

Thomasville didn’t play Lexington in 1961 or 1962, so Lexington was in a different conference. We resumed playing them in 1963 and have every year since. And most years before ‘61. I know they were in the old South Piedmont Conference with us in ‘64, but I guess it could have been a non-conference game in ‘63. My brother played against them that year. I’ll check with him. Or at least I will when he gets back from his winter Yellowstone tour viewing wolves. Lucky sucker!

Agreed. They played RJ Reynolds and other schools like Page that year. Lexington certainly isn't what it used to be in more ways than one, size and makeover being the prime example.

Lexington was THE SCHOOL in DC for many years. It took Tville quite a while to catch up and surpass in overall record. North has just lately been making up the difference.

Also... I may have been at the school for more than just curiosity... Hint hint...

We were their victim in 1967.
That was a hell of a team. North only lost two games that year, coming off a 2A Area title. Beat Lexington in 66 and paid for it twice in 67. Other than the AL Brown loss, Lexington destroyed literally everyone that year.

I heard it was due to a water pipe issue or new lines needing to be ran. So the city and schools are replacing it with a turf field and track. Lots of schools are going to turf.
Thomasville looked into it a few years ago. Doesn’t make any sense for Cushwa.

Wow, the City of Lexington isn’t funding it. They legally can’t, just like the Thomasville City Schools can’t spend money on capital projects at Cushwa. Or the city couldn’t spend money on the track renovation at THS a few years ago.
The money at LHS is city schools, Davidson County and lottery funds. Counties have the responsibility for school capital projects, so can fund it.
The only money LCS gets from the city of Lexington is through the school supplement tax, just like in Thomasville.

Was there a Coach King at Lexington, at one time ? The reason I ask is he was here until Coach Harris came in 1958.

OC I'm surprised you still talk to me now haha! I can't wait for the ND reactions lmao
Who says I’m talking to you? Just kidding. Looking forward to hearing about it.
Both my parents lived in Lexington at one time and my mom graduated from LHS. My grandparents lived there their whole lives in the Myers Park Drive area. Lot of aunts, uncles and cousins lived around the country club. Friends with many of the folks in city government. I just don’t want to hear the smack. Fortunately, I haven’t had to hear it in a long time😊.

Well... All that's left now is paperwork and administrative stuff. Just waiting on word. When I was a teenager I would have never imagined this lol...

I'm sure that there is some year to year apparent savings for a turf field... but I know turn key, its well over a half million dollars to put one of those in. Yes, it saves the AD/coaches from having to mow the field and fertilize... but in a little over a decade, that expense resets and it needs to be replaced. Turf fields don't last forever, like some folks think. At best, it is a wash. I'm certain that Lexington Athletics is doing the bare minimum when it comes to field maintenance, and they really only have one field to tend to. The rest of their outdoor stuff is played in facilities that the school doesn't own or maintain.

It'll look good. I hope to see a game there someday. But odds are it will be a blow out in favor of the visiting team.
I do like that they are getting their track up to speed as well. Their track team has had a few successes lately and it will be nice for them to actually be able to host a track meet at their school again.

Lexington has athletes . I think the problem there is probably like a lot of places. Video gaming, Concussions, lack of interest, inconsistent feeder programs and jobs, cars and girls.
You are absolutely correct. Lexington has athletes. They should be top two or three in the county every single year.

They are a mess organizationally. When the tower started to topple, it toppled completely. When the power that be have tried to assemble the tower again, they didn't start with the wide base it needs to be strong again.

The middle school is a mess athletically. The little league isn't anything special either. I hate it for those kids. They deserve something better.

Will Lexington show any improvement in 2022? Lexington has potential to be a winning program. Looks like alot of issues need to be straightened out

Talent is there. Numbers are a huge issue. Transfers are another. Time to tighten that cookie jar up!

Paperwork has been filled and turned in to LCS. My past self would never believe this lol

Without some transfers from Lexington going to other places one school in particular in the county would have not been the same over the last few years. Davidson Co. having city systems and a county system makes it easy for kids to transfer. Let’s not be naive…the HS portal is alive and well.

McIntosh was a little older he was drafted from NC State in 1985. Those 85/86 championships were led by Deems May at QB. The running back I remember was Littlejohn. They ran that wishbone and had just moved down from 3A. Really good especially offensively.
