1976 graduate and former state champion returns home to coach the Red Raiders. John is well respected in the Carolinas coaching community having been head coach at Providence Day in Charlotte, as well as James Island in Charleston, SC. He also has over 20 years experience as a college assistant at WSSU, Elon and the Citadel. He also coached one year in the arena football league. welcome home John!

Wow. Strong hire. Given the talent at HPA this will make for some deep runs the next few years. Congrats on the great selection.

I must admit my excitement levels are very high. From what i hear they were blown away by his interviews.

I know John very well. He's a high energy guy who is very passionate about winning and doing it the right way. It will take time for the kids to adjust to a higher level of discipline but I think they will respond and be better young men. It will be interesting to see if and how he tweaks the offense. From a professional perspective, he fits the part and carries himself like a high quality leader. The kids will love that I think. There will be some bumps in the road as there are with any big change but I expect us to continue and be very successful moving forward. As shared above we lost a lot with graduation but believe we will win some games in year 1.

Also, Kudos to the AD and principal for making a quality hire that had ties to the school. I know a few of the other coaches who were in the mix and they were big time coaches with state championship experience that we would have also been lucky to have but at the end of the day, John was a better fit

Awesome hire as a coach, but even more so as a role model for the student athletes at Andrews.

Andrews will be always solid when it comes down to it. Too good a talent pool to not be.

If Patterson gets the Football IQ and behavior side down well they will be a force in 2AA East every year.

He will bring discipline to the program. May come at the cost of some players or wins early on. Once the guys see that he will not put up with non sense they will be hard to handle. Always loaded with talent.

Andrews has always had good kids. They have always responded well when held accountable; just like everywhere. Sounds like they are fixing to put the smack down on some folks. How bout dem Bison? Ya'll ready??
