It seems as if we are not the only state unhappy.

GA has had some serious issues that basically arise out of the Atlanta metro area. It is mostly a metro v everyone else regardless of classification.

I am not in favor of legislature trying to run high school athletics because it becomes a scenario of the politicians helping their area by getting "favors" from other politicians and areas that do not have a strong rep or one in the "in crowd" getting shafted.

The one time the NC legislature got involved they did not notify the NCHSAA and held a vote first thing in the morning on changing around conference alignments that had been created from a just concluded realignment. It helped out a few schools but really screwed some schools in the ripple effect as they were left out of a conference. Complete BS.

The other time recently it appeared as if they were getting involved was to allow home school athletes to compete at local schools. The NC legislature is "school choice" friendly so you can expect to see charters, magnets, and privates (especially Christian backed) get favorable treatment. The legislature being involved in NC may be a negative for 1A traditional schools but it may not. I would not want to take the gamble.

I am not sure that the problems that NC has is the same problem as Georgia. We used to think it was bad when we just had Bishop to fuss about, and of course I do think they are 1 of the many problems that are going on in 1a athletics at this time. Not sure if it was 3D or Btango or someone else who forewarned us that the real problem would be charters. Boy were they right. The Alleghany Trojans that are so dear to my heart won their first 17 games ended up as co champions of their 1a/2a conference and ended their regular season 20 and 2 only to draw one of those ficticious 1a charter schools in the first round of the state playoffs. The team was Queens Grant, and the Trojans gave them a run trailing by 2 with under 3 minutes to play only to end up losing. It is probably just as well, because the route that would have been required to get to the regionals would have been as follows Round 1 Queens Grant Round 2 Community School of Davidson Round 3 Winston Salem Prep and Round 4 Lincoln Charter. As you will be able to tell by the names of the schools listed, they are all either charter or advantaged in some way. Advantaged schools are ruining 1a athletics period, and there has to be a solution of some kind. This argument has went on for years, and I am sure at some point in the future when it is way too late, something will be done. In the meantime, the hopes and dreams of kids who attend real 1a schools will have been dashed and they can never be recovered. I am sure that what has happened was never the intention of the NC legislature when they approved charter schools, but it has happened just the same. 1a schools used to be small rural schools that brought their communities kids to the game and competed. Now it is simply a recruiting battle and a joke.

I wrote on this site ten years ago that people needed to focused on the huge monster growing and realize Bishop and Charlotte Catholic were nothing compared to what they were going to see.

The admin at the NCHSAA, fir the most part, is not amused by the non yradituonals in 1A. I have been told directly from an admin that the state legislature is a huge fan and wants to give choice schools as many positives as possible to draw the students.

If you want change you need your coaches, AD, principal, and superintendent speaking with your state representatives fir both the legislature and the NCHSAA BoD.

They are afraid to speak up for some reason. That is not fair for basketball because if it was going on in football they would be screaming state 1-A wide. when that happens if they can't speak up for basketball I hope they are ignored on football. We are talking about the lack of balls here !

The High School version of "Get Out". All jokes aside I'm in favorite of charters playing the regular season and separate for playoffs. Break them up into two divisions.

And the #1 public school in each conference gets top seed for that conference for the public school playoffs even if they are 2nd behind a charter school !.This scould also include Open enrollment and private schools that has no boundaries.

please don't tell me that Mt. Airy doesn't have open enrollment...lol.....

Stanly county schools don't have open enrollment.
Are there not several students at schools playing sports that should be at Albemarle? This may have occurred with the open enrollment
period that happened at the end of last school year or the year before.

AHS has had students that came to the school that live in other districts. I know one family that returned their children to their home school. Parents were trying to support their Alma mater, AHS.

Yes we have kids at other schools we actually lost very few during the week long open enrollment period that surprisingly happened when AHS was in the middle of hiring a football coach ad men's basketball coach and principal. Haha a few other "transfers" were questionable and I will leave it at that. So yes we do but we don't have open enrollment.
