If you consider the 6 games played in those same classifications, 4 of the losers of Friday night games are also in that 704 area code.

I thought the same thing about the 2 Lincoln county schools, KM, and Concord. 4A/4AA losers would mess up the potential 704 sweep if they won lol.

Ten of the 12 west semi-finalists (excluding 1A/AA) are in the 704 and six of the 10 are west of Charlotte in 3 counties. The only area that could come close is the Triad/336 area code and they are split across east and west - East Forsyth, Dudley, Page, Northern Guilford, and Eastern Alamance (plus 1AA Walkertown).

Football in the 704 is crazy good. All of the championship games you mentioned may very well come from the 704 or nearby area except.....Wallace-Rose Hill in 1AA. Take this one off the list for 704 area wins because WRH is not going to lose. As a matter of fact, this will get ugly quick. 7 of their 14 games played so far have been shut outs and of the other 7 games, 6 of those teams scored 14 points or less. They lost to James Keenan (rival game) early in the year and turned around last night and dominated them. This team was already good, but has got much better and as good as their defense is, the offense is that much better. Of all the 8 state title games, this one may will get decided the earliest as it will be over by the end of the first quarter.

We weren't even looking at 1A/AA schools - Chopper's original post specifically excluded them. The west schools are 1AA Mitchell and 1A Robbinsville which are both way up in the mountains in the 828 area code. The closest 1A school was Community School of Davidson who lost to Robbinsville in the west final.

Many years ago, when I was growing up, the WNC mountains was the 704 area code, so technically Robbinsvile and Mitchell started out as 704 teams.

Even so, neither Robbinsville (which is closer to Knoxville, TN and 3.5 hours drive from Charlotte) nor Mitchell were even depicted on the map shown. At one point, the entire state was 704 area code until 919 was assigned to the eastern part of the state (from Winston-Salem east). Both Winston-Salem and Greensboro used to be 919 and 910 before going to the 336 area code so that makes their schools east teams, I guess.
