I was bored so here we go...this is going to be a long one.

1.Listed all schools within the NCHSAA in order of ADM highest to lowest (418 schools). Then removed non football schools. This proposal only applies to schools with football (42 removed) (376 remaining). Sorted into 6 classifications as even as possible

6A = 1750 on up (62 teams) - Myers Park 3688 to RJ Reynolds 1754 (1934 Diff)
5A = 1300 to 1749 (63 teams) - Hickory Ridge 1740 to Western Harnett/Orange 1306 (434 Diff)
4A = 1000 to 1299 (66 teams) - South Johnston 1285 to Currituck County 1000 (285 Diff)
3A = 800 to 999 (64 teams) - South Point 998 to Fairmont 800 (198 Diff)
2A = 560 to 799 (60 teams) - Brevard 791 to Louisburg 561 (230 Diff)
1A = lowest to 559 (61 teams) - South Stanly 556 to W-Salem Prep 152 (404 Diff)

2. Breakdown each classification into "Geographical Conferences" by County proximity. Some general rules:
-no split conferences.
-no school will have to drive more than 2 hours within their own conference
3. Minimum of 5 teams and a max of 8 teams in a conference when possible
-3 to 4 team conferences = 1 auto qualifier
-5 to 8 team conferences = 2 auto qualifiers
-9 or more team conferences = 3 auto qualifiers
-schools that don't fit into a conf. due to travel time and bc of no split conferences rule will be "independent". These schools will rely on adjusted rankings to make the playoffs. Sucks I know but if I adhere to my rules then this is the outcome.

**Only 32 teams from each class qualify for playoffs. 224 teams currently make the playoffs (8 brackets), this proposal drops that to 192 (6 brackets).

Looking at county maps and distances between schools and by my own rules - this is the outcome:

Format = School - ADM - Class - County

That’s why he says it’s hypothetical. They could call the highest classifications 4AA and 4A and the lowest 1AA and 1A like in Nick Stevens’ proposal.

That is my hope but do a 30/20/20/30 and subdivide 1A and 4A for team playoffs. 2A and 3A would have more teams per championship but the ADM differential would be close enough that they would not need to subdivide...any sport including football.

Subdividing was due to the the size of the smaller schools and the larger schools in a classification. With little difference it is not needed.

That might be a better proposal than Nick Stevens’, but I do like his multiplier proposal. Combine your 30-20-20-30 with his multiplier proposal and it could be perfect.

I like the multiplier but it needs to be used fir all schools that allow athletes from outside their geographical district, with a few exceptions, to play sports.

I like that better than the 12.5-12.5-25-25-12.5-12.5

I agree. I think 30/20/20/30 could bring us to six champions in all sports with only 1A and 4A brung subdivided. Hate more champions but really want fewer in football.

I think five would about perfect With some emphasis on 1A with traditional and non traditional.

btango,
What schools in addition to perochial and charter schools would you like to see the multiplier applied to? What are some that allow kids from outside their own districts to attend?

I am definitely in favor of some sort of multiplier for those schools.

Three schools in Davidson County always seem to teeter in-between being the largest in one classification and the smallest in the other. ND, Ledford, sometimes Central Davidson... but now Oak Grove is in the mix too. Should be interesting.

So I haven’t seen number for West Cabarrus (starting next year), nor have I seen the numbers for Seaforth High School (new Chatham County School starting in 2021-22). I don’t think Seaforth will be anywhere near 1000 kids starting off. Does anyone know where West Cabarrus will start?

Also, there is a new school opening in Wake County too that I’m certain will be way larger. Green Level, I think?

I think almost all of them allow it. Stanly County is now open enrollment but fir several years they let students leave Albemarle and go to any of the other three and they were eligible day one. Note North Stanly volleyball forfeits. Albemarle district, attended Gray Stone, then went to North. Legal. North did not complete proper documentation so they forfeited several games.
