Not sure there will be improvement. All I can think of right now is the JV team was in the bottom third of the conference and only a couple kids got moved up to varsity. It could be an interesting challenge for Coach Beam this year.
Newton is in the third or fourth year of the middle school being on the opposite end of the school district. All the disadvantaged kids who once walked home from practice to the center of Newton will not have rides back home. The middle school is now a long, long way from downtown Newton. If kids don't play in middle school, rarely do they play in high school. I think this is going to impact all sports forever if it already hasn't.
Newton's best athletes came out of the downtown Newton area. Not all of them but by far the majority. One thing is certain, the size of the kids next year except four big guys will be small.
