How did coach get the position?

I was told this was a great hire but just have not confirmed. And people are saying he wouldnt get it because he's an Art teacher but doesnt that give him more time to watch the history of other programs? I dont care if the guy mops the floors.....as long as the program is happy winning games. Heck, why not have a chance at teaching more classes and recruit kids that are currently just driving big monster trucks.

Sometimes they say that coaches establish a mobile home within the area because of hiring knowledge before anything begins due to the fact of family tides or whatever tides may be in place, but this may be a bad idea as the community may fire the fella within time based on outcome and expectations from a community which is King in basketball.

Someone may be butt hurt right now because their nephew, brother, or uncle didnt get hired but that's life. At the end of the day you cant win without a great group of kids so my suggestion is not to jump on here and say anything about any wins or losses if you dont know the situation. I mean if a coach comes from a football tradition then why take a chance on a coach or anyone that has never had a mom, brother, father dog, or cat in football gear. Just curious if the Bladen community likes Football, Basketball or Cricket?

In summary, I dont know, but if you use LinkedIn you will be able to network, even if it is business related. other than that, if anyone is looking for a job inside the Bladen area, they should just get their family involved before applying and assure that the family tides are in place without attending the interview.......sometimes it helps to have a mobile home to show you are already in place and ready. Stability & loyalty would be the perfect solution.So if you plan to get hired as a coach and stay as a coach without being interviewed for the coach, then you best burn the midnight oil, everyday, all day, 365 days, before you even think about the position........Oh and please do not get on this site and bash anyone, because its embarrassing. I'm pretty sure someone may have a relative in the coaching staff, so please let them speak about what is behind door #1.

Just because he is an Art teacher doesn't mean anything. Actually that may be a good job b/c he will have plenty of free time to watch film. It will also allow him to hire somebody to be the strength coach possibly. And that in turn is another teacher/ coach on staff to recruit kids from the halls to play. Stability is key to long term success. He may also be able to teach two classes and team teach weight training class with his varsity team in there. Lots of things to consider here. As for the hiring process, who knows what teaching position they anticipate having to hire a coach? Most coaches come from PE and Social Studies. May not have one coming open, which will cause problems with the strength position. Or he may have somebody lined up for that so saved the position by hiring internally.

It seems over and over, coaches are hired before the interviews, boosters and people on the boards or friends of the board and Principals decide who is the next coach, before the interview process, some coaches even look for housing before the interviews.

HATE TO SAY IT BUT MANY COACHES CANT COACH AT THE HEAD COACH LEVEL, BUT ARE GIVEN THESE JOBS BY WHO THEY KNOW, THEN ONCE A HEAD COACH , THEY HAVE TO MOVE EVERY 2 OR 3 YEARS BEFORE THEY ARE FIRED, WINNING IS EVERYTHING, BUT RUNNING A CLEAN PROGRAM, TAKING CARE OF SCHOOL FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT IS IMPORTANT TO.

It is pretty embarrassing to get on a site like this and bash people when you have little to no knowledge of the situation. As someone who has a relative on the team I can speak on it. Yes, they went 4-6 last year but two yrs ago went 9-1. You can't win without players and no, West Bladen is absolutely not a football school. Never has been, probably never will be. Basketball is King there, with baseball a distant second. They are not going to take a chance on a 20 something year old coach especially when the school he came from had an opening and didn't hire him for whatever reason. Didn't even interview him from what I understand. If that hurts someone's feelings, that sucks but it's the truth. Coach Williams comes from a coaching family and we are going to get behind him and support him.

Most of the time coaches have an easier time getting a job due to networking and long established relationships. It's exactly the same in the business world. Coach Williams obviously offers the administration at WBHS something that other candidates don't offer. Whether or not any of us will know what that was is doubtful. As for anyone looking for a head coaching job, they should keep networking and keep proving themselves to the administration at their current school and make the best of the opportunity that they have. A coach and good friend of mine once said, "Everyone wants to be a head coach, but very few want to put in the effort and time that it takes to stay the head coach."

I think a lot of conferences have gotten tougher. adding EB to the mix with Whiteville, South Columbus, St. Pauls, and Fairmont didnt make things any easier. The old SEC conference added Britt and 71st... that conference will be loaded especially in football. Teams like New Hanover dropping to 3-A. Should be an interesting year coming up!
