Hounds at Bears

Jackson Smiths 2nd season as Hounds head man. Who will they have as playmakers?
Game probably over at halftime.
They’ve got the best running back in that conference in my eyes in the Simmons kid, and their line was impressive at one of the lineman challenges. I do think North is way better this year than last but still don’t see this being much of a game past halftime

IK there jv had good season also with talent.

I am afraid my opinion is that the only thing North Surry will enjoy this Friday night is the pregame meal.
I sincerely wish and hope that North learns a lot and the rest of their season is better than what I am afraid is going to happen to them.

I don't see it happening this year but 2A North Surry has given Mount Airy some good battles over the years and maybe Mount Airy's football Historian will give us the stats going back to around 1967 when North Surry took in, I am thinking 4 other small high schools. The Bear Historian can tell us when North Surry had its first football game against Mount Airy. I know Mount Airy has won all the games since 2001 but lost 1 game in 2006 by one point 26-27. I no longer have records beyond that. I may be wrong, and DaddyDoug the Bear Historian has the records back to when Mount Airy first started playing football maybe over 100 years ago. I can remember North Surry had a winning streak in the 1980s or 1990s of between 7 to 10 games. Good Luck BEARS !

North Surry will be able to score on anyone this season I feel. They have a above avg passing attack. They passed well against Watauga. Jake Simmons is a stud and is going to to get positive yds nearly every time he touches the ball.

With that said. Norths D can’t stop the ball. MA will run at will I believe Friday.

The sock bowl has lost its luster from 30 years ago for sure. Mount Airy has to many weapons for anyone around the area this year. They are having their run of generational talent just like East Surry did for 4-5 years. You only see that much talent on a team once in your life around here. Good luck to the Bears and the Hounds.

Always have lots of time when you're just standing back there and throwing. It would be my observation that hardly anybody's going to run the ball on Mount Airy. Maybe tarboro. But I would say I think that you better run the ball on Mount Airy if not that QB may not fill it in the first quarter, but come second and third. He's not going to be looking to stand back there and sling it. Secondly you don't have enough athletes or strong enough kids to get away from that secondary. In case you're forgetting what they did to the boys from Burke county last year. Now I know what you guys did to them last year. But you had a pretty good athlete that they were concentrating on I think.

MA D IS LEGIT! Dont see NS moving ball much!

Last year there was a really good crowd at North. Does anyone know what the level of excitement or level of expectations that exist at North this year?
We have heard very little from North so far this year. I would really love to see standing room only kind of crowd this Friday night but that will only happen if North fans show up.
And as we have grown accustomed to, The Mount Airy News is NOT. Are they still in business?
Here it is Tuesday before the first game of the season and if there has been one word printed about any local football team I have failed to see it in the Mt Airy Newsless.

North is keeping their heads down and worrying about getting better everyday. Winning the social media war doesn't do anything for you on Friday night.
I understand what you are saying and my request was not meant in any way as a slap. I actually want them to do good (of course except against Mt Airy). My request was actually one out of a real interest in how they are doing coupled with a well deserved slap at the Mt Airy NonNews.

I'm not worried about if MA is the greatest team ever or not. MA will be excellent and make a run of course, and best of luck to them when they get to November, I mean that 100% with no jest.

I'm just ready to see us get going. We've had a great summer with some of the best #'s I've seen us have during then, and both scrimmages were quite fun. Last Friday really exceeded my expectations as we played 2 class programs very well, and our defense went in without a day of prep and played hard. MA's a beast of a different nature but we gotta face it, it's life.

We will give MA our best effort regardless and move forward from there. I'm excited to see what we do.

Didn't take it as an insult, just pleased to see the Hounds focusing on getting better and only worrying about themselves. It will eventually pay big dividends.

Welcome back Slash. I hope you have time time to do weekly updates on the teams.

I think Mount Airy wins this one. It's the first game of the year and an in town rival, so I'm not expecting them to come out and just handle North Surry immediately. I think it will be similar to last year. Might take a quarter or so to shake off any rust and work out some kinks. Might be a few delay of games getting plays in or false starts to kill an early series or two provided Mason doesn't just break loose for 30 yards or a TD everytime he gets it (which is a possibility). They should start to pull away and control the game late first half or early second. North Surry will have a good year, but won't start that way. They had several close games last year and I think Smith will have them improved this year enough to pull out some of those closer games this year.

Reid can break one just as easy as Mason.
Agreed. Martin can too with that speed. I was just referring to the first couple series where the drives might get killed due to getting into a rhythm. I figured Mason will get the carries the first couple drives to start the year. Could be Reid though. That's the coaches decision, I just get to watch the fun.

I'll be keeping my eye on North's inside LB's this game. Smith brought in a stud to coach them boys up this offseason. Got em on his personalized weightlifting and dietary/supplement plan. Those boys are looking like the came straight out of a Rocky training montage. Looking for some heads to get rocked on the field and for the new ILB coach to be dishing out celebratory headbutts left and right on the sideline. #ourtown

BRING THE HAMMER!
I remember that hammer very well. I posted a photo like this the week of the NS vs MA game maybe 10 plus years ago for several years

Let's get it done. There's North boys are ready to go aren't they oh wait are you talking about the JV game? I've seen some film on the varsity I didn't see anybody like that in there. Maybe they weren't playing in the scrimmage.
