Hertford Co vs Northeastern is a rematch from the October 30th slugfest, which NE won 37-34. It's no secret I'm backing NE, but Hertford County is DANGEROUS. Junior WR Jaquqrii Roberson #25, is one of the best receivers I've seen in high school in quite some time, and I don't give that praise lightly. He torched NE for 156 yards and 2 tds last go around, and has 1315 yards for the season. I notice they like to run him off of picks and throw quick screens before they load up the deep bomb on you. The original db from NE did a great job checking him on the line in the 1st half. But of course the coaches and sidelines started complaining of holding so the yellow flags made them ease up, and he torched him. Hertford Co qb has some wheels too! This go around I hope NE puts them away early...I can't stand another nailbiter. Sometimes I love the NE "all out, get in your face, man to man, no safety help" defense....but sometimes it makes me nervous. It will be a great game to see!

Another nailbiter! NE got the job done though. People may look at that score but when it was 20-7 NE, I just knew the rout was on. Hats off to Hertford County. ...heck of a season. Like the old saying goes...it's hard to beat a good team twice....but NE did it. Keep flying under the radar Eagles.....See yall in Kinston!

Games between two power running teams usually end quickly. I wonder how long this game will last, because between the two, the ball will be in the air all night.

This game should have went into overtime pending an extra point or two point conversion attempt by Hertford resulting in a win. They were on NE's 5 yard line with 6 seconds left and threw a pass into the back of the endzone. It was a close call if the ball was caught. The official said it wasn't. There was a photographer standing there taking pictures who showed the entire team and Hertford coaches the ball was clearly caught inbounds. Not only was it caught in bounds but the receiver had two feet in. No juggling of the ball. As you can imagine the team was heartbroken. The fans of Hertford surely thought it was a catch as I did and I'm not a fan.

Tough break for Hertford. Ne squeaks by.

Kinston "squeaked" by as well...so I guess we have two well squeaked teams moving on to the 3rd round.

Assuming that we handle our business next week, I don't know who I want to win the NE/Kinston game. Anybody that knows me knows that I don't like Northeastern. So pulling against them is easy. But if Kinston wins, then we would travel to them for the eastern championship. But if Northeastern wins, we will have the championship game at home. Would I rather see the Eagles lose, or do I dare root for them?? I'm stuck.

SWE'98, next Friday I don't think your will be too worried about who wins between NE/Kinston.....your hands will be full with Fairmont. ......not my favorite team and most definitely not my favorite coach...but they are as good as advertised.

Yeah, that's why I said assuming we handle our business. I will admit, I know nothing about them. Heard of them, yeah, but that's about it. What do u know?

Big, strong and quick kids..like SWE...coach knows his x's and o's but didnt always have the skill set athletes needed for what he wanted to do on the 4A level. Looks like he does now. Big middle linebacker.....maybe Williams can use his speed and get to the outside...wouldn't recommend any dive plays up the middle.

I think the long bus ride will take it's toll on them a bit....trying to contain all those emotions for a couple hours can drain you.

Really the refs was for them all night right before the halftime the went for a fake field goal and pass the ball to one our guy's and they called pass interference they had no one over there at all .We had a touchdown call back too the was holding the jersey of number 6 all night so something goes our way and it's a big deal on they last drive they caught 2 balls out of bounds one on 4th down

Refs are human, so some mistakes can be made. But for those crying about those last two passes, they need to ask themselves, what could they have done better in the previous 3 quarters to prevent it from coming down to that?

I honestly think that NE gets by Kinston. Each good team that kinston has played played them close, and although NE has had some close calls late this season themselves, I just think they come out ahead again. But I don't think it will be by less than 14.

SWE'98 we went down there to play yall in 2010 I think yall won but we went to the state championship game that year

NE has close games because we shoot ourselves in the foot too often. Most games start off smooth, building a two score lead...then POW! That 1st shot to the foot happens. Can't afford that this late in the season. No offense SWE'98, but my ideal match up has us facing Fairmont if we defeat Kinston. I have a MAJOR axe to grind if that happens.

Yeah james, we had a home and home with NE then because someone on your staff had a connection with SWE. We were successful both years. Didn't meet again until third round last year, in embarrassing fashion for us, which is why, shawn, that OUR ideal matchup is with you guys. Quite honestly, we owe our success this season to NE and that game. It taught the players and the staff a lot, and it motivates our seniors who were a part of that game. It would be sweeeeet to earn a championship berth by getting revenge. But we've got a huge task ahead of us first. It's not a given that we will even be a participant in the eastern finals. There's a mighty good team that would love to squash all these plans.

In any other situation SWE'98, I would root for yall, but that is my home county team yall going up against. But if this is any consolation, their coach has never made it past this round as a head coach.

This is our 5th appearance in the last 10 seasons in rd 3. We are 0-4. Looks like somebody will be getting a first.

Oops. This just in: the nchsaa suspends that ref for the next round of the playoffs. Really though, it was bang bang, and the ref was not in good position to see exactly what happened in that corner of the endzone, plus when he did there, the player's body was clearly out of bounds.....but I'll be damned....his entire body was IN BOUNDS when he caught it! That was a touchdown thru and thru. :04 pause

Where is the link to the NE td they called back for a phantom hold? What about the pass interference call that nullified a NE interception, when no receiver was in the area? Hertford County scored 20 points in the 2nd quarter. ..and only 7 in the 2nd HALF....that's why they lost...not one play.

SWE'98 I saw the same thing, instant replay SLOWED down and paused shows the kid caught it in bounds.....but like you said, it was a bang bang play....no instant replay in high school.

13. They scored 13 in the second half. They were only given 7. But they earned at least 13 lol. Pass interference and holding are subjective calls, but a touchdown is definitive and non debatable. Looks like HC outscored NE and lost. Makes me second guess NE's chances this week. The Eagles are mighty mighty close to being a 5 loss team this year. I don't think it bodes well for them to have close game vs Kinston.

SWE'98, as bad as I feel about Fairmont s coach, I still will give the team it's just due. You on the other hand sound CRAZY lol. Close to being a 5 loss team? Cmon man. The FACT is NE HAS NOT lost to a 2A team this year..can SWE say the same? The Pam Pack SMOKED yall at HOME! So which would you rather have...a close win or a BLOWOUT loss? I already know the answer. And like I said, they only scored 7...the scoreboard is what counts...the out of bounds call was NON DEBATABLE....HC has to deal with it, and try again next year.

You got me going now SWE'98. .....NE has not given up no more than 34 points in a game...Hertford County did it twice in losing efforts. SWE gave up 53! AT HOME!! That tells me that somebody got hit in the mouth and just gave up? That also tells me that it can happen again! I wasnt gonna pick on them but since you think NE should be a 5 loss team, I had to critique SWE....and that 53 point beat down is eye opening.

Here's the thing...I don't mind the critique of our team. I don't get up here acting like we are poised to take over the world like some people here. I have said more than once that we may be once defeated, but a lot of that has to do with the way our schedule played out this year, seeing as how these same teams that were strong last year fell off this year. I showed fear that we could lose our second round game because the only teams our opponent lost to probably would have beaten us too. And not losing to a 2A team doesn't mean much, because we beat a 4A and a 3A squad, but that didn't help us against 2A Washington, so how does not losing to a 2A team help y'all? Honestly, I would rather have one blowout loss than two overall losses. Washington scored 21pts on 45 yards in the first quarter due to three red zone turnovers by us. In the second half, we played backups. I guess you can say we phoned it in, or you can say that we used that game to get better. Look at the schedule. Seems to have worked out in our favor. There aren't any 1pt victories. There aren't any games that could have gone either way. So you want to bring up the Washington game when I said that NE could be a 5 loss team? I'm just looking at Edenton. I'm looking at Hertford twice. And I'm looking at the two you actually did lose. And you're looking at....Washington. I guess. Don't know why you took offense to me saying what I said. You know that if you put another school's name on Northeastern's results, you would be like " that team could have loss 5 times." But I know it's hard to be objective when it comes to your own team. It's all love though.

And it was a 40 point beatdown, sir! Lol. But what's your beef with Fairmont's coach? You have yet to say.

Ok SWE'98, it's all good, lol. My beef with coach Heil goes way back....I used to play for him. Not tooting my own horn, but I was a good player for him. Came time to choose a college and he wanted me to sign with his Alma mater, Elon College. I did, but for reasons out of my control, I backed out and went elsewhere. He immediately blackballed me with the other coaches and distanced himself. Awards Day came and needless to say, I think I only got a Extra Effort certificate or something? Three year starter on Varsity Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track...I didn't know what a JV team was. Made All County twice, All Conference, in the Top 100 players in the state...AND was the 1st football player at the school to get a football scholarship...and he gave me the gas face. Somethings you never forget. People talk about adults wanting to live through their kids achievements, well I'm sorry, I just have ONE wish...for my sons' team to face his...talk about being hype!

What school did u go to? Was it Fairmont? And man, after looking at their schedule and the sorry records of the teams they played, them getting past us is unlikely. Anything is possible, I suppose, but we would really have to play poorly. They may be 11-2, but they are 10-3 on the field, and two of those losses are head scratchers. I'll go in on them in a post later this week.

Northeastern should be undefeated IMO. Two special teams mistakes cost the Lake Taylor game and turnovers vs Wilson-Hunt
