Has the talent level dropped of at Albemarle

Since the enrollment at Albemarle started declining several years ago, the talent level has dropped proportionately. Add to that the fact that we had an inordinately large amount of talent for our size school for several years, and it makes the current ebb seem even more pronounced.

The talent level has dropped in all areas of Albemarle Football.......including Coaches. We're stuck in another "wait and see" predicament.

I heard today that Montgomery County is going to Consolidate. Already approved by the School board

Like I said, I'm all for consolidation. If two new high schools where built and they combine Albemarle and "Whoever" I'd be fine with that. But Turning Albemarle into a magnet school and shipping the "Poor" kids to North was the dumbest thing I have ever heard of.

With Montgomery county consolidating, they would probably be 2AA-3A....good luck.

I am assuming they will build a new HS, probably around Troy maybe on the new by-pass they are building..Any time table for the consolidation?
Just saw on CP they are saying 2019......

New high school to be built in Montgomery. They would be 3A based on the combining of the two current enrollments.

Understand that the new school will be adjacent to the Montgomery Community College campus, which will enable students to take classes there as part of the College and Career Challenge curriculum, and the Early College program. Smart move IMO.

That makes the school board in Stanly County look even more stupid lol! Stanly County needs to go with 2 "Brand New" high schools... leave those cry babies in the West right were they are and merge Albemarle/North/South....and then obliterate them in sports...

I wonder where the funding is coming from for Montgo? Are the Jordan's involved?

Don't know about the talent level but the average IQ dropped 30 points when Graystone Charter opened. And the Richfield area IQ went up 30 points.

Albemarle didn't lose any football players to Gray Stone and I don't think any of the other schools in the county lost any players to Gray Stone either. If the truth be known there are probably as many students who live out of the county that attend Gray Stone than there are that live in Stanly County.

Stands to reason that the talent level has dropped off as the school has gotten smaller. But I agree that with the right coach and some stability in the program the talent drop-off could be overcome. The combination of lower turnout/coaching instability over the last few years has been a recipe for trouble. Look no further than the JV program, which is a shadow of what it was just ten years ago. Without a healthy JV program, any school is going to struggle to stay competitive.

Combination of less bodies due to enrollment drop along with less development, both skill and physically, due to the coaching turnover and loss of strong coaches.

I would expect Mason and Herlocker to be able to have them physically ready but lack of numbers can bake it appear less so.

I am excited to watch the incoming freshman class and Sophomore classes to develop. They are very talented and athletic, I am fully expecting in a year or two these two classes being great. Good luck to the kids and Coach Mason along with his staff this season. It will be fun to watch these kids mature and come into their own.

Why would Jordan's be involved no kids left in high school shows how much you guys really know...maybe unlike stanly county folks people here in Montgomery county want change, stanly county is stuck in a rut only good thing they have going is they have one hell of a sheriff

Albemarle has always had issues with talent...most of your guys who weren't inner city were recruited I could make a list with names and addresses and boy the state would love to see that...it's ok for albemarle to take talent but let someone else take theirs and you will need a box if tampons
Triplej, they don't have the the talent they use to have so we shouldn't have to worry about that anymore, I hear albemarle lost a player to West Montgomery this year, I think it's a questionable transfer.

Prove it....

I don't know one person who played at Albemarle that was recruited. Now did they want to play for a winning championship program...you bet your bottom dollar they did. Hell we "Pummeled" them year in and year out besides T-Ville.

Heck, all the talent South Stanly had in the mid to late 90's, you could say they were recruiting also. GTFOH.

@Triplej2013 did you win a ring at Albemarle?

Didn't win a ring because I didn't buy into the recruiting scheme I can list multiple names and addresses but that all gets brushed under the rug in the glory days....and in the 90's albemarle didn't win a "ring" so get your facts straight as far as they wanted to come to albemarle that's a total lie people can be persuaded trust me it goes on everywhere teams just don't get that good year in and year out without help from the school board...maybe that's why the school board wants to close albemarle they have real respected people with character in there now who don't wanna play the old games y'all are use to playing....get the hint my friend it's not rocket science they don't cover your tails anymore

Sway calm down man it's ok, we get it don't blame south stanly for a mistake albemarle made

I am pretty sure I heard that we traded Herlocker to West Stanly Middle School in exchange for Mason. I am not sure if he is coaching out there or not.

Wes Herlocker is at North Stanly Middle School this year.
