I'm wondering, Mister Lincolnton, if the Cloninger family you speak of is related to Tony Cloninger, a Lincoln County native who pitched for the Atlanta Braves, hitting two grand slams in a game vs. San Francisco in 1966 ….
P.S. Hope you and yours are well, Sir.

GSO, I'm sorry I missed your post on the Reidsville versus Shelby thread. If I would have seen it earlier I would have gotten back to you much sooner. I put this on a separate thread in case you didn't revisit the original one. For some odd reason I will read the posts on a thread several times, even long threads (I suppose for the same reason I watch Gunsmoke reruns). When I read over the posts, again, today, I caught where you had asked about the Cloningers.
I've known Coach Cloninger for many years and for some reason I've never asked him if he is any relation to Tony Cloninger. I knew one of Tony's brothers, but only met him (Tony), once. They were big stout looking men. Coach Cloninger is an average size man but to me, he favors them in the face, so I would guess there is some kindred. My memory seems pretty short, here lately, but I will try and remember to ask Coach about that.
The Cloningers lived down towards Denver, NC. Tony died a few summers ago, I believe it was 2018. He had several world series championship rings from having been a bullpen coach for the Yankees.
Hope all is well with you and people in Guilford County are good to you. I'm doing good. Thanks for asking.
P.S. Hope you and yours are well, Sir.
