The battle for that second spot really heats up this week.

West Cabarrus (3-5, 2-3) at #1 Hough (8-0, 5-0)
The Wolverines have a brutal end to their schedule… Mooresville last week, Hough this week, Hickory Ridge next week. The Wolverines have a lot of speed and athektion the outside, and a good looking QB with a big arm. They were beating us with the deep ball in the first, getting behind us in man to man. Made a couple adjustments and it was all Mooresville from the second quarter on. Their best player was injured late in the game, not sure of the severity so idk if he will go this week. If not, it will make an uphill challenge even tougher facing one of the best defensive units in the area. Hough big here
Hough 48 West Cabarrus 10

Cox Mill (4-4, 1-3) at Hickory Ridge (6-2-4-0)

Chargers come in off of a hard fought 15-7 loss to Lake Norman, the Bulls come in off a bye week. Cox Mill is a hard team to figure out.. they have the ability to play with teams like Lake Norman, HR.. heck they have a good win over York in SC. But they have a real tendency to cost themselves with penalties. Hickory Ridge is the most complete team in the GM4… big effective OL, big time WRs, a big Time QB that has wheels, and a fast and disciplined defense. I don’t expect Cox Mill to be able to keep pace with the Bulls here.

Lake Norman (6-2, 3-1) at South Iredell (2-6, 1-3)

We head to troutman for a tradition Iredell County Rivalry game. Wildcats come in off of a big 15-7 road win at Cox Mill, South comes in off of a beat down on the road at AL Brown. Everyone knows what LKN is, they are disciplined, they don’t make mistakes, they chew up the clock, and they are aggressive with onside kicks and going for it in 4th to create extra possessions. South has one of the best RBs in the conference, but lacks depth and size. The Vikings average less than 100 yards a game passing. They have also struggled with keeping guys healthy throughout the year. I think this game could be closer than some may think, LKN isn’t an explosive offense, and their style of play, of South can keep LKN from quick plays, will keep the game close. It will come down to can South consistently move the ball on LKN?

AL Brown (4-4, 1-3) at Mooresville (4-4, 3-1)

Easily the game of the week in the conference as ALB and MHS renew their rivalry. First meeting since 2019, and first conference meetings since around 2008 I think. The Wonders come in off a blow out win over South, and Mooresville comes in off of a dominant 50-14 win over West Cabarrus. AL Browns front 7 will give Mooresville fits, big, athletic LBs will be able to range and cover sideline to sideline. Mooresville has really played well since conference play has began. Played HR really tough and ran out of steam. And the last 3 weeks the Blue Devil offense has exploded following the change at QB (due to injury). Blue Devils will try to establish the run with Howell but they have 2 very reliable WRs outside if needed. This is another game I can see being much closer than people may think

Mooresville 23 AL Brown 17

1. Hickory Ridge 6-2, 4-0
2. Lake Norman 6-2, 3-1
3. Mooresville 4-4, 3-1
4. West Cabarrus 3-5, 2-3
5. Cox Mill 4-4, 1-3
6. AL Brown 4-4, 1-4
7. South Iredell 2-6, 1-3

Good info Devil06. Looking at the West Cabarrus at Hough game I think Hough want have any issues in this one. Taking Hough by 6+ TDs
Cox Mill at HR.. Cox Mill can be a hard to figure out. Hickory Ridge I think will be too much for Cox Mill. Hickory Ridge big in this one by 5+ TDs
Homecoming night at Viking Valley which may help some.. I notice the AL Brown game South RB Neal didn’t play. At 1st I thought he would seeing that he was in uniform out on the field before the game started. Depending on if he plays or not will depend how well they do. Also noticed some players not playing. I will take Lake Norman in this one by 17 or more.
AL Brown at Mooresville. Both sides will be fired up for this one. If AL Brown can put together a game like they did last week they can stay in the game. But I think homefield advantage with help Mooresville out. I take Mooresville by 2+ TDs

My upset special kannapolis over Mooresville 24-21

You guys have just been unlucky woth covid issues this year. If ya hs your kicker you beat WC, Cox Mill caught you short handed as well.

here’s how I see it (disclaimer- assuming Both are full strength)

passing game- Mooresville
Running game- even
O-line- slight AL Brown adv
WR- Mooresville
RBs- slight Mooresville adv

Pass defense- even (not sure either are fantastic)
Rush defense- AL Brown.
D-line- AL Brown
LBs- AL Brown… best LB corp in the GM4 IMO
DB’s- Mooresville but slight.

kicking game- AL Brown. Our special teams are not good

The only one that I’m not so sure of is the O line. We can’t give the QB any protection.

Okay maybe I’ll lean Mooresville there. The first 2 weeks our line was real bad… we have made steady gains there since. Our DL is pretty big and athletic so if your line struggles we may have an edge there

Ole it does.

I'm a little confused about the new playoff format. Does the top 3 teams in the conference make the playoffs automaticly and 4th place has a chance as a wildcard

or does the top 2 teams in the conference automatically make the playoffs and 3th place has a chance as a wildcard

This may be wrong but the way i read it is 64 teams total, 32 on each side East and West, so the West would award all conference champs first then 2nd finishers, after that i believe everyone else left in thrown in a pool together and using RPi, win/loss and conference record award spots, someone may speak to this better than me as i havn't read deep into it. Looks be to 16 spots left after the 1st place winners are put into the bracket

Top two in each conference get the automatic bids. Then it comes down to wildcards that are filled out by that RPI rating.

that’s why if both Mooresville and LKN next week is MASSIVE, if they can pull off wins this week. That would be the game that decides the automatic playoff spot, and the loser falls into the wildcard mess

ok thanks. I was trying to see if Brown had any chance of making it if they finished 6-4.
I don't think we beat y'all Friday night but if we do lol

If you win out, it may be possible. I don’t know where y’all sit in the RPI. A lot can change state wide in these last two weeks in the RPI

I feel the Wonders must win their final two games to make the 4A playoffs.

Well I may be wrong actually, I think if we lose this one, as long as we best LKN we would grab the 2nd spot out of the conference.

no 2nd place teams are ranked #2 in conference. #1 seeds get ranked by RPI. Then all teams are placed by RPI. Unless you are the Conference champion. You will be placed by RPI.

Well no watching games for this week. I was tested positive of the Covid the other day. Which stinks. Anyway I’m doing ok. Some cough. I did get an infusion yesterday. I will have to catch a game on the radio.

But the top two in conference are the only guarantees to make the playoffs. Anyone else falls into the wildcard. That’s what I was saying, the game next week vs Lake Norman is for the final guaranteed playoff spot out of the GM4

top 2 doesn't automatically get seeded in each conference. Only the champions are guaranteed in the seeding process. It depends on your RPI after that.
