For a couple of years now, I have to come down to the Gaston Co area for business. All I hear about is either Red Raiders or the teams in Cleveland County. I have seen Ashbrook play, and was mildly impressed. We don't have great football in Western MD, but that doesn't mean I don't know it when I see it. I've been reading some of these threads, and I'm not interested in getting into a war of wits....I like the Cherokee St Grill in Kings Mountain, and KM is at home this week. All I hear is Cleveland County, Cleveland County, but all I also hear is about the two schools in Shelby. One guy keeps telling me that one of the Shelby schools is so good, the Carolina Panthers come watch them play. Suggestions this week, and then I'll be back in 2 weeks. Thanks

Burns @ Kings Mountain should be a good one. If you don't mind traveling to see a great game, Mallard Creek @ South Pointe (Rock Hill, S.C.) should be a shootout.

I have to check everyone's schedules. Maybe Stuart Cramer @ Ashbrook. That might be close! Most of the other games in the area look like they could be blowouts that week.

Burns and km for sure and u can grab a cold one or eats right there at cherokee st grill.

I've eaten there a couple of times....So is it true that the running joke is, everyone in KM goes to Gastonia to Drink and everyone at Cherokee in KM is from Shelby.....I guess everybody is hiding from their preachers.

One more question......I see where KM and Burns are 7-1 combined. I can't find anything on MaxPreps or this site about any D-1 type players. Does anybody have any legit info about players looking to move up to the next level? I see where the Shelby schools have some good looking kids being recruited, and South Point has one, but I don't really see where anyone else around this area has one. Don't even get me started on Prep schools, I see that bogus talent all over MD. I'm being told that Charlotte is littered with them, but I'm not down with that trip. Old Dowd Road is as far as I go.

If you mean being back in two weeks is 9/30 then you are very close to a great game coming. That would be East Lincoln vs Lincolnton. Both are ranked in the top seven in their classification and have nice football traditions. The game is in Denver, NC. East Lincoln played in the state championship last year with a state all time record setting QB and have a couple still there headed to colleges.

Somebody mentioned that game. Is Denver on Lake Norman? I want to see the Shelby Lion play, but I was told there wouldn't be a game worth watching until November.

Yes, Denver is on Lake Norman. You will be very close to some very good places to eat as well within two minutes of the stadium. Chill Fire Grill is an upscale restaurant and Midtown Sundries has some good items as well. Both are on Hwy 73. Again this is a 9/30 date.

I believe Monroe beat EL last year. But that will be a great game this year especially with Surratt at Lincolnton this year.

Doesnt KM play Shelby on 9/30? Thoroughly expect to see Shelby win and it will be KM back to back weeks but that will give you a good measuring stick of what shelby is and compared to KM and Burns

Cover6terp where are you from in Western MD. My wife is from Oakland

Shelby vs Chase would a great game to go see as Shelby once again will try and defend that streak.

No offense to my EL friends but their "tradition" doesn't really pre-date Byus. L-town's goes back to the 1920s if not further...Just a quick clarification....

Later!

No disrespect intended. I would love to see a Shelby Lion game, but I watched some highlights of Burns-Chase, and I do not think I could sit there and watch that. If Shelby is the team I've heard about, then I would say Heavy Mismatch.
