Cool story on Franklin, NC native Thomas Evans (FHS Class of 2011). Junior Captain (6'3" 315lbs.) for the Richmond Spiders is setting records in the weight room. Has been dubbed the "Strongest Spider" to ever play for Richmond. His Bench is 525+ and he Cleans 425!!! 3 lift total 1575 lbs. Polite young man but a complete animal on the field and in the weight room.

He was pre-season and post-season NCPreps.com All-State and I always wondered why nobody in NC recruited him hard. Looks like Richmond found a gem!!

Maybe he didn't attend any combines or isn't quite as big as he is listed? Or, maybe he did get seen, but didn't project well in terms of footwork, balance, played too high, etc...

To be honest with you I think it was more about where Thomas's family felt he should play. People close to him, including Fred Goldsmith, felt he was worthy of D1 attention. I know for a fact that WCU wanted him real bad and people close to the program still talk about it. I believe there was some close contact with big schools, but something happened there.

Thomas has the intangibles that separate him from the pack. This video proves it.
