After 36 years as a coach at Forest Hills John Lowery announced his retirement. Assistant and Head Coach of the football team since 1978. Winning a 2A title as an assistant under Algie Faircloth. He took over as head coach in 1986. Since then 16 conference titles, several regional final appearances in 2A and 3A, only lost 25 conference games in 30 years and only missed the playoffs once, finishing with over 300 wins. He was also head coach of the NC Shrine Bowl team. Lowery was head coach of the baseball team from 1978-1998. Winning 250 games and the 1997 3A state title. Going to be a big change seeing a different head coach on the sideline. Good luck to Coach Lowery in his retirement.

I was at all of those Thomasville/ Forest Hills playoff games. Huge crowds didn't matter which school was the home team. It was always huge. Slugfests!! I miss those days. Marshville and Thomasville would shut down for those Friday nights. Tons of speed and size on both sides. Thomasville always got the best of us at FH but the atmosphere made it still a great game to be at. A lot of respect between the two teams, coaches and communities. You don't see that much anymore.

I'll never forget back in 1986 we came down therein the semifinals ... Great atmosphere and I remember the Band coming down into the stadium from back off towards some woods!! For some reason to this day I can see the drum line and remember the beat they were playing entering the stadium... Great game that night and we went on to play Havelock in the title game the next week winning our first 3a title .... Always keep up with Forest Hills through your posts jacket!!! Great program under coach Lowery

The city of Thomasville would shut down on a Friday night, especially during the playoffs, businesses would have signs wishing the dogs good luck or congratulating them on a win,I sure miss those days...it's hard to even fill the stadium now,I believe it's just parents and the die hard fans that go now,but all of us diehards are getting older now and maybe can't make every game...this younger generation just don't get it in my opinion

I agree Dawg,.....FH game Friday night against East Burke the stadium was barely over a quarter full. Sad sight. Back in the day u had to get there 1-2 hours early to get a seat. Especially in big games like Monroe, Thomasville or Shelby. Kids have so much more to do these days I guess. Don't care anymore. There are some that are always there but not like it use to be. Just seemed like everything was better back then. Dawg I will never forget your stadium. Cushwa Stadium, spelling might be wrong. Great place, nice people. Love to play y'all again. Love to play Shelby again also. Shelby has a 2-1 edge on us in wins head to head. Hopefully a new coach will bring in some excitement. I really hope they look for someone good and not just stay in house and promote someone. FH really needs a fresh start with the football program. We've got plenty of talent. Success has just faded some the last few years.
