The CCC title is now decided with the ND Black Knights claiming it with a big win over Oak Grove to secure a 2AA #1 seed in the playoffs. Oak Grove finished out a good season and is the #2 2AA team from the CCC, ND and OG can meet again in the playoffs so that could be interesting. Salisbury lost to both teams, not sure if that would be the case now to gain the 2AA #3 seed from the CCC. Salisbury is playing well and may make another deep run in the playoffs like they did last season. The CCC could put a team in the 2AA semi's or state title game so that is an exciting prospect. Ledford was solid as usual and finished just out of the playoff race. Central Davidson continued to improve finishing 5-2 but got no wins over a team with a winning record also missing the playoffs.
Thomasville went 3-3 losing to Ledford, OG and ND. The Dogs will drop to 1A for the next four seasons so unless they schedule a non-conference game the Dogs will not have to play those schools with 300-400 more kids in the hallways. East Davidson got a few wins but continued to lose to the bigger county schools as they traditionally do. West Davidson got a win over Lexington but also struggled with the other county schools. South Rowan won a few games but moves on to a 3A conference ending their CCC tenure for at least four years. Lexington struggled with low numbers and a really young team to finish 0-7. The Jackets have a new coach and this season may not be indicative of what they can really accomplish with more kids, a consistent coach and covid going away.
Thomasville, East, West, Salisbury and Lexington will move into a new conference (maybe the 1A/2A CCC) with N Rowan and S Davidson. That new league is top heavy with the likely conference champ being either Salisbury, Thomasville or N Rowan with the others fighting to beat one another and win a few games. Ledford, OG, ND and CD join Asheboro and Montgomery Central in a new 3A league and will continue the local rival games that have made the last four years so exciting in the Northern end of the county. Will be interesting to see how many of the 2A teams will schedule and play the 3A bigger schools. Those games offer good gates, money, attendance and local travel for both leagues. Playing those bigger schools may not be a priority for the coaches at THS, Lexington, East and West. All of the schools will be looking for 4-5 non-conference games so we will see how that works out. Short season or not, it was a good year for the 2A CCC and I hope the name sticks around as it has been part of piedmont area and Davidson/Rowan county football for a long time. Good luck in the playoffs and going forward to all the schools in the current CCC.
