Erwin player shot yesterday has died.

God this is terrible. At 1 pm this happened?! Did they not have school yesterday??

Thoughts and prayers for this kids family, as well as the whole Erwin community and Erwin football team.

Why was he not in school at that time? How did he get a gun at 17? Who shot him? There are a lot of questions here

I think I heard the news say he went to community high school and played for Erwin. Maybe the hours are different there...idk.

You really don't know how 17 year old kids get guns? I would guess this is gang related. Sure has that sound to it. We buried one of our graduating players today. He had signed to play football in a smaller college with hopes to transfer up in 2 years. We bury the other graduating player killed with him Saturday. Both killed in a wreck friday in wet weather. I hope the impact of this continues in the positive way I saw it going this past Saturday as our school met in the gym. Before it ended almost our whole student body joined hands and made a huge circle around the gym praying. It was something to see and be a part of. Society is lowering it's standards and so many don't care about these kids. They get caught up in this gang mess because its glorified on tv and in rap songs. Heck look at the Super bowl halftime show. 17 year old kids are killing each other for nothing and its a shame. I hope what I saw at West Craven Saturday continues. You have to show these kids love to reach them.

Condolences from all of us here at Central Cabarrus. Prayers for the family as well as the team. Coach Tarr and Coach Sexton are good friends and I know how much they care about their kids. I know they are devastated. We are praying for you guys.

Asheville paper says he was a junior at Erwin and they have 23 grief crisis folks at Erwin today to meet with the kids. It's a very sad situation, absolutely terrible to have such a young life end in pointless violence.

Erwin has had racial tensions too several different times. I'm not sure what the hell is going on there.

The news said it again last night that he went to community high school. Just because he went to community high school doesn't mean the kids didn't know him and need grief folks. It doesn't really matter though does it?

The police investigation is ongoing. WLOS and the Asheville Citizen are not the most aggressive of media when it comes to investigative reporting.

this is just so sad such a young life taken senselessly my thoughts n prayers go out to that family and all the erwin community godspeed to that young man
