Huge NCC game this week between Edenton (6-1) and Northeastern (6-1). Both of these teams lone lost have been to big powerhouses in Rocky Mount and Lake Taylor (VA). Hurricane Matthew did a number on northeast NC and may have an impact on if this game is played Friday or another day. With that, thoughts and predictions on the game?

I don't know much about the respective teams this year, but if I had to go on pure history, i would have to go with Northeastern taking this game.

With this game its always anyone's guess. Their numbers look very similar. Last year was 35-34 in favor of Northeastern.

My thoughts about the game and advice to the Aces are (1.) The Aces secondary got to play smart and stay with Northeastern receivers when the QB leave the pocket, (2.) must stop the big RB Northeastern has in the back field and not let him get to the outside because he has tremendous speed for a big man and just a sophomore if he work at it and stay focus could be another Gurley type back in the making,(3.) the Aces got to control the lines of scrimmage and be prepared to play four quarter of football because Northeastern is not going to quit if they get behind as their previously history has shown so far this season, and (4.) be prepared for some trick plays and contain #5 and the Walker kid who has helped them to come back in the games they were losing in the fourth quarter. The Aces got to be physical, focus, and emotionally under control and not get a lot of unnecessary penalties in crucial situations. Good defense always win big games. Coach Mattera and his defensive staff must be on their A game in calling defensive plays for the kids in a hurry. This game should be on ESPN the best game in northeastern NC this week.

AcesWild2323 base on your eye witness of seeing both teams play and going with your gut feeling whom do you like Edenton or Northeastern? I see in NC Prep that this kid Keion Bailey from Holmes is #4 in the state in rushing and only

I see in NC Prep that this kid Keion Bailey from Holmes is #4 in the state in rushing and only a junior and the other back Hall has over 825yds rushing. Do you know whether those two kids are getting any looks from D1 or 1AA schools? I know they are only 5'6" and 5'7" but there are a lot of short back playing college and pro ball. This kid from Bunn Tarik Cohen whom is from 2A Bunn and is the star RB at A&T State University is only 5'6" 185 and is tearing up his conference the MEAC in rushing. You guys who don't know about this kid watch ESPNU Thursday night this will be the second week in a row that A&T is going to play on ESPNU. Tarik is the real deal and could play at anybody D1 school. I think he will be a #2 round draft pick. You guys check out this kid videos from high school and now A&T.

hornet62, I have only seen Edenton Holmes play in person and Friday night will be the first time I will have seen Northeastern play. As far as hard and fast predictions go, I don't like doing that with teams or programs that are fairly equal because one, I am not very good at it. Two, I respect Coach Moore and his program too much to make any brash predictions. Three, I respect Coach Hoggard and his staff too much to give NE any bulletin board material. I do think both teams are better than they were last year but I feel like Holmes is more improved than NE and for that reason along with the fact I am an Aces' fan, I like Edenton Holmes in this one.

Have you seem this kid Tarik Cohen at A&T University from Bunn High School? If not check him out Thursday night on ESPNU the Aces RB Kerion Bailey is about the same size as Tarik and this kid at A&T could play at any D1 schools in the country. All you fans out there if you aren't busy Thursday night check him out also on ESPNU. I like to see kids from small programs do well in college in football and basketball. Someone has said that Bailey isn't big enough to play college ball on the D1 or D1AA level. I beg the different.

Great atmosphere Friday night in Elizabeth City. Haven't seen that place that packed since Southwest Onslow came up for the Regional Final a few years ago.

Would not be surprised to see these two meet again come November
Big Bird12 if they do coach Hoggard and coach Mattera has to come up with a different game plan than the one they had Friday night. Northeastern was prepared and took away the dive option and put the ball in Luke Hoggard hands to beat them with no disrespect to Luke or coach Hoggard a good team like Northeastern especially with a good defensive is going to stop the dive option most of the time. The Aces don't have the biggest and athletic offensive line beside the two offensive tackle #66 and #56. I think a full house backfield with Luke under the center like Tarboro and Clinton run most of the time will be better going forward for the Aces use their power game. Northeastern used it last year for awhile in the first half and was dominating Kinston but for what ever reason coach Moore went back to the spread and we know what occurred after that. Also the Aces DB's coach has to instill in the kids that when ever the QB is moving out of the pocket to stay with the receiver those DB's is not a rookie back there. Also as been stated many time recently by different coaches in the conference the Aces for what ever reason make or have too many turn over at crucial times in the game. Maybe the Aces coaches need to hit more in practice or go back to fundamentals of holding on to the ball and blocking without holding, I realize as a former player myself those things happen but with the Aces it been going on for years even before coach Hoggard got there. Does anyone who has played the game have any suggestion to eliminate or cut down on some of the turn overs. Waiting for your suggestion or ideal. Peace.

AcesWilds2323 if you were at the Edenton/First Flight game on Friday did the Aces coaches change any thing on both side of the ball? Also if Holmes come in second in the conference do you think they will get at least two home game? Thanks.

Nothing was changed on either side of the ball that I could tell. If the Aces win out and finish 2nd in the conference I think they would get two home playoff games.

I have seen both teams play several games. Both teams have outstanding coaching staffs. Outstanding I repeat. The difference between the two teams are the players. Northeastern has a more physical and stronger team than Edenton. They also have more team speed. The plays that Edenton ran against them are the same plays that worked against everybody else. Northeastern simply has a better team.

So if Holmes ran the same plays against Hertford County and beat them and then Hertford County turn around and beat Northeastern with Northeastern QB's throwing four interception in the game. Hertford County could run the ball against Northeastern but couldn't do it against Holmes defense. You figure it out. On any given night a team in the same conference can beat another. As a matter of fact both Holmes and Hertford County should have beaten Northeastern last season.

How many flags was there on northeastern last night I heard almost on every play
Your own coach admitted that they got physically beat by Hertford County. It happen sometime Jamesdavis2006 so just go with it like the Aces fans did when they lost to Northeastern because of the mistakes the Aces made. You will still make the playoff but maybe not the #1 seed from the conference. Peace.

If coach Hoggard and Mattera can't get the Edenton Aces mentally pump and ready to play these last two games for a share of the conference championship then something is wrong some where what do you think AcesWild2323?

It's just means that just because of the refs now we have to go on the road in the playoffs and beat someone at they on house. ...

Yes and if you go on the road and win then that's a good thing plus it will help the kids coming back next season plus although Holmes won't be in the conference Northeastern is still going to be playing them every year because it's a rival game plus a money game.
