We made like a tree and split at the Wheat tonight. ER boys held on to win 64-58 while the Cat girls lost an absolute heartbreaker in the final seconds, 47-46.

The story of the boys game was Mr. Davonte Brooks. He simply could not be stopped on the interior. He had a first half for the ages. Behind his stellar play, ER built a solid halftime lead.

Wildcats almost gave it away though. Some sloppy play in the third quarter led to Wheatmore coming all the way back and taking the lead, 49-48, at the end of the third. Tyler Kimball was hitting threes from every spot imaginable it seemed.

Fortunately, ER got it together. Carter hit a couple of big threes and Julian Brooks got a couple of huge buckets on the inside. In the final seconds, Bryce Foland hit a couple of free throws to seal the deal. Foland was outstanding on the boards tonight.

I'll talk about the girls game a little more tomorrow. The ending made me absolutely sick to my stomach. I don't blame ER's coach one bit for acting the way he did.

How did Wheatmore beat Uwharrie Charter (I wish they would lose every game) and then lay an egg against ER, nothing against ER but the record shows what I mean.

Its going to be interesting in the last 3-4 games how things shake out with Uwharrie, PG , Trinity and Randleman

As far as the girls game, I will be interesting to hear your take. Did Snotherly play ? All I heard and read was that Biggs made a shot at the buzzer to give Wheatmore the win. The girls race for 2nd will be interesting too with ER, Wheatmore, and SWR

Alright, here's how the girls game ended......

With ER down two, Cats come down and find Mackenzie Gee open in the left corner. She buries the three to give ER a one point lead. ER calls timeout with around eight seconds.

Wheatmore has to go the length of the floor. They get it in the hands of Kara Comer and she starts flying down the right sideline. She gets all the way to the bucket and misses. However, no one accounts for Kylie Biggs. Biggs is all alone inside, scoops up the ball, and puts it in just before the buzzer sounds.

On the final drive to the basket, a blatant "carry" was not called. ER coach was absolutely furious.

I do have to say that #10 for Wheatmore played a great game. In the fourth quarter, she hit an absolutely outrageous scoop shot. If you had been playing her in a game of HORSE, you would've lost when she hit this shot. Trust me.

Also, #11 for the Warriors hit a deep three from the left side to put Wheatmore up late. She's a good shooter.

Wheatmore's tough to figure out. It still baffles me that they've played Randleman to within single digits not once, but twice. After watching them, I'm still trying to figure out what about them would give Randleman problems. I'm not surprised they beat Uwharrie (heck, ER beat Uwharrie first time around).

Despite not having much size/athleticism, the Warriors are a solid team. They're smart and play well together. They also have a good veteran point guard which helps tremendously. And a good shooter.

As far as ER goes, they played their first five/six games without Snotherly. Snotherly had been playing at Winston Salem Christian and transferred back. She makes a huge difference on the court. It really is comparable to Jimmy Chitwood coming back to play for Hickory High. And yes, she played last night. She had another outstanding game.

Because of this, ER's record is a little misleading. It also didn't help that they played North Davidson twice during that stretch.
