I walked away tonight unable to tell a whole lot as well. Lots and lots of unforced errors (penalties) from both sides. Good amount of size but lacking at skilled positions, speed and depth. Business will pick up in a big, big way next week.
My take is a little different (but maybe I'm more of a homer!). Very good size and more speed than I expected. We dressed only 31 players, but about 25 saw a lot of playing time. We need to get #3 more touches at running back. You are right, we'll see if we can play with the big boys next week.
What's the real problem? Best guess would be verification of residency? Second guess would be transcript analysis - academic eligibility?
Has he been practicing with the team? Im just wondering if maybe its because he hasnt met the practice requirements the state has (i thought NCHSAA has a rule that you have to participate in X amount of practices before you're able to play? Maybe im wrong on that)
Yeah, this whole situation is bizarre....The other prep football magazine(Friday Night Football) had a whole article written about Robert Washington and his journey to Mountain Island Charter, yet right before the season he switches to East Gaston?.....There's no doubt that East Gaston and the NCHSAA is holding up this whole process, and agree that his transcript from the now defunct Southlake Christian Football program, is likely being looked at along with residency in East Gaston County as mentioned above....The kid obviously has talent as he's already committed to Syracuse, and like others I'm interested to see what impact if any he'll have with East Gaston?
Doesn't his dad live in Charlotte and his mom in another city. Who exactly is his guardian? Heard rumors of him residing with a girlfriend's family. Which sounds odd. Regardless nothing seems to add up. But hey i don't know nothing besides what i been told
As far as I can tell from newspaper reports I have seen, Southlake Christian is the subject of an FBI embezzlement investigation. People realized the school was a sinking ship and started transferring out. Football numbers got so low that they cancelled varsity football this season.
That's hard to say. We have not been up against a quality team in our scrimmages or first game. We are a big physical team, but our overall team speed (on defense) concerns me. We will need to play much better than we did against Bessemer City to have a chance.
We have to eliminate about half the penalties we had. There were a lot against BC. What worries me most about KM, is their ability to not only strike for big plays but control the ball on offense. Their coaching staff does a fine job over there and playing keep away has always something they've had a knack for.
