well after a very impressive performance by ED last night they travel to Bunn next Friday night to face a Bunn team coming off a win against Burlington Cummings. Bunn appears to be playing well but i know very little about them. lets get your thoughts on this 3rd Rd matchup.

I think ED wins over Bunn. I've never been impressed by a Bunn team in the playoffs, There's a reason they're 11-2 and ranked #22, their strength of schedule in #98. That being said East Duplin is ranked #27 but their strength of schedule is #64. Its very clear to me that East Duplin has worked much harder to get where they are today. Go Panthers!

Bunn is usual watered down and seem to always get exposes in the playoffs.....we went there for a 3rd round game back in 2006 they had a Notre Dame commitment playing DE and a Clemson/NC State prospect playing RB and Safety we beat up and down the field 36-16 was the final I believe.....one thing I remember there field was in horrible condition

Our only common opponent is Franklinton. They beat them by a very similar score... I think that if ED plays as well as we did last night that we can win the game. We played an exceptional football game last night. Especially on defense.

But whatever happens, I'm content with our season. We all said that we were a year away. We're peaking at the right time and building momentum for next year. Very proud of the boys.

i agree with Wiz that some years Bunn will have a very good reg. season record and then get exposed in the playoffs. i dont know how good they "really" are this year but something tells me they do indeed have a legitimately good team this year. i think if we are to win, that we are going to have to play a very good game again next week. if we play half-hearted then i think Bunn will end our season. that being said i think we will be ready for war once more. i think (and hope) we get the win.

agree. Seen Bunn a few times in years past and their record is always inflated Bc of who they play. Shouldn't be much of a struggle for East Duplin.

Their past teams aren't stepping between the lines next Friday Night. Bunn is good or they wouldn't be in the third round.

i would be thrilled for there to be an ED/Clinton eastern championship. that would mean we're still in the playoffs. if that happens it might bring back that "magical" atmosphere of the ED/Clinton playoff games of years past.

It's good to see the old ECC conference foes competing at a high level again -in the hunt for a state championship!!! The big four will be back in the same conference soon Clinton, East Duplin, James Kenan, Wallace-Rose Hill.... What a power conference it will be

yeah, and there will probably be some good teams some years not making the playoffs :(

We're like an old married couple....we keep splitting up, but somehow we all end up back together, the way it was meant to be! I will be ecstatic to see the old ECC back together again! Unless another school is built in Duplin County, this may be the last time East Duplin will be in the conference, as I'm sure that they will move up to 3A next realignment.

Looks like Bunn has a lot of size and a pretty good running back in number 24 but it does appear that they have not been a great playoff team in the past. These two have met just once before and that was in a second round playoff game at ED. The Panthers won that game 41-7. No secrets here, both teams want to run the football, we'll see who wants it more. My money is on ED, GO PANTHERS!!!!

i hope we take care of business friday. i expect nothing less than a close game.

Got my Panthers in this one. We'll always be in a good position to win as long as our defense plays up it's potential.

i think its simple. if the team that played Croatan this past Friday shows up against Bunn, we win. if the team that played against Croatan the first time we played them shows up against Bunn, we lose.

I have seen Bunn this year and many years in the past. They give up a lot of points to good offensive teams but they also score a lot. This years Bunn team has a lot of speed and weapons and can score.I beleive this years Bunn team is better offensively than in the past but weaker defensively.I also know East Duplin's program pretty well.Bunn in a high scoring affair but its football so who knows!!!!!!!!!Bunn 48 East Duplin 38.

anything can happen but if we play well Bunn will not score 48 pts. on us! but we have been a little bit jeckyl and hyde this season. so like i said, anything can happen.

36-29, Bunn defeats East Duplin. Clinton at Bunn for Eastern Regional Final!
ED posters honestly I'm disappointed. I thought the Panthers would take this game and I was looking forward to coming to Beulaville for a epic eastern championship matchup like we've had before but apparently it wasn't meant to be. I remember from some of talks on previous post you thought the program was actually a year away from contention. I know it stings now but look what you got to look forward to. Our DarkHorses are felt by some are a year away too as we have a young teamI I hope we go all the way this year nut I fell quite certain it will be between the DarkHorses and the Psnthers two old ECC foes next year . In the meantime join us as our DarkHorses try to take care of business in 2015!

Now that I've calmed down... I'm sure I'll catch hell for this.

We lost because Battle Holly made a poor decision late in the game.

Fourth and less than a yard from the 45ish yard line... up 29-28 with four minutes left in the game, and you punt... that was the game. They hadn't stopped our offense all night. Our drives ended because of penalties and an awful turnover on our own 14.

East Duplin should be playing next week.

I for one am thankful for the great year our team had.. NO one in the beginning of the year expected our boys to go to the third round, maybe hoping we would but not really believing it would happen.. Think where we were last year and how it ended... The Blame game should be put behind us and lets move on to look forward to next year .. We don't know how it would have turned out if we had run on the 4th......We could have not made it and the result probably would have been the same. I for one am thankful for our coaching staff and look forward to a great year next year... all the way.. panthers

I agree with you Firefox that call could have went either way. Battle was banking on what got them to that point in the season and that was the defense I'm sure that had a lot to do with his decision to punt. All in all Congrats ED on a great year... Also Battle made some key calls to put them back in position to even be in the game

i agree with you guys that Battle made some great calls that put us in a position to win. i want say Battle coached like a "you know what" like was previously stated but i will say we really should have won this game. from all ive seen of Coach Holley's coaching style he is not the most conservative coach in the world. i think 9 times out of ten he would have went for that 4th down conversion. i dont know why he chose the conservative rout this time but i think that was the turning point that sealed our fate. couple that decision with the fact that we literally wasted more than one time out in the game and we didnt have the time nor composure to get another touchdown at the end of regulation. if we would have went for it on 4th down and failed, they would have had a shorter field to work with. so if they did score, theoretically speaking that would have left us more time to score ourselves on that last drive. so my personal opinion is that we should have went for it regardless, but im just a fan like all of you. all in all i can say im very proud of the team because we went farther than i ever dreamed we would just a few short weeks earlier. however it still stings that our season ended like it has so many times before. with a whole lot of ifs. i dont know if we're cursed or what it is, but we just never have got it done in the playoffs. even when we really and truly should have won like last night, we still havent got it done. in 2010 we should have won it all because we outplayed Tarboro everywhere but the scoreboard, and of course Tarboro went on to cruise to another state championship. ill always be an ED fan because thats just who i am. but i honestly dont know if its meant to be for us to even make it to the state title game, much less win it. it seems like even when things are perfectly aligned for us we still dont get it done. im referring to our program in general, not specifically this years team. i truly hope one day soon we'll win it all. but after so many years of "almosts", you have to ask yourself if it ever is really going to happen. (us winning a state title). one things for sure, whether we do or dont, ill always be an East Duplin fan. but boy being an ED fan sure is tough sometimes.

We lost because Battle Holly coached like a *****...

Fourth and less than a yard fromantic the 45ish yard line... up 29-28 with four minutes left in the game, and you punt... that was the game. They hadn't stopped our offense all night. Our drives ended because of penalties and an awful turnover on our own 14.

I was on the field, it was more like fourth and two, and a big decision had to be made at that point. I'm pretty sure that's why Battle is a football coach and we're not. He made the calls that got us back in the game down 14 against a very good team and when it gets to the 3rd round there aren't any bad teams playing. Easy to second guess anyone, sometimes i question the guy i see in the mirror in the mornings but we got up today and life goes on. I'm amazed at the run these guys had, not a lot of folks put this team in the third round conversation earlier in the season and many so-called Panther fans were in that number of folks. I think the program made some great strides this season and it will pay off in years to come.

What can yall tell us about Bunn I see they offense put up some points in the regular season how do you think we will fare against them????.........and I kinda agree I mean up 29-28 with 4 mins left I think u roll the dice on 4th and short just my opinion
