Well coach Anderson has put together another brutal schedule for his mariners with an interesting twist. East will play the local 2-A and 3-A teams plus games at 4-A New Hanover and during the holidays three games in Fayetteville against some 4-A schools. The mariners will also play at 2-A defending state champs Farmville Central on Martin Luther King holiday Monday.
Coach Anderson doesn't normally add a 1-A non conference game but this year he did and it's a big one. On December 22 there will be a double header at East. Winston Salem Prep will travel to Carteret county to play the mariners. The first game will be Dixon vs Havelock. Coach Gould wants his kids to see beautiful Beaufort and gaze at the wonderful beaches and ocean. I believe Prep will travel back to Winston after a one night stay. I don't know if this is a home/home deal.

East opened the season tonight with a 72-28 victory over Croatan Cougars. Due to about eight varsity kids still playing football only nine players dressed out. Some jv players got to play and they played well.

After getting thumped at home by Northside - Jacksonville, ( Congrats to them , first time I've seen that in many many years) The East Carteret Mariners make the big comeback across the river at 3A undefeated West Carteret .

I just noticed a very interesting game on the Mariners schedule. On Dec. 28, they're playing Richmond County in the Holiday in the Pines tourney. Richmond County has scored more than 100 points in each of their three games. In their first game, they put 130 on Anson.

Yes , I saw that . It doesn't appear too much defense was being played in those games and I'm unsure of the level of competition. We will know more about it by gameday as East has tilts against Jones Sr. , New Hanover and W.S. Prep before that date and Richmond has a possible six games with the tournament play to come.

Richmond's level of comp hasn't been too, too bad. Anson played West Stanly to within six. If you can do that, you're not a bad team at all. Judging by the scores, Union Pines doesn't seem too impressive. However, they did beat Terry Sanford (3A state runner-up) a few days ago.

East will play Jones and NH without their only big kid Robert Johnson. Robert will be playing in the shrine bowl.

East defeated conference foe Jones Senior and lost at New Hanover. It won't get any easier Thursday nite when W-S Prep comes to Beaufort.
The mariners will have to play very well just to keep it close. Prep is loaded and will make another strong run for a state title.

Well, East and Prep played another close one as Prep defeated the mariners 59-57. This is the third time they've met and the total margin of victory is six points.
Prep overcame East's five point fourth quarter lead to claim the victory. The mariners missed the front end of a one and one and turned the ball over twice that lead to prep taking their only lead of the second half at 59-57. East had a chance to tie with .9 seconds left but missed both free throws. Prep led 30-24 at the half.
Havelock defeated Jones Senior 81-56 in the first game. The 3-A Rams looked very good in winning over Jones.

The Mariners will step away from conference play and travel to Farmville Central on MLK day. East will battle defending 2-A champ Farmville as part of a one day tournament. There will be five games and some great match-ups.
Since returning from the Holiday in the Pines where the mariners lost two games the mariners have won three conference games. Last night East defeated Southside 81-28 to go 4-0.

East loses at Pamlico Friday night 71-65 snapping a 53 conference winning streak.

The mariners lose at home to county rival West Carteret 87-84 in overtime. East lost the game at the line. Their free throw shooting was awful. Also West's guards dominated East's guards.

The mariners got back on the winning track last night with a 87-30 victory over Bear Grass Charter. East played the game with leading scorer Jack Garrison on the bench not dressed out.
East has a big game Friday at Jones Senior with the winner having the inside track for the conference title. The mariners,Jones Senior and Pamlico all with 5-1 records still have games with each other.
East also will be on the road Saturday night at Havelock.

The mariners won a thriller tonight in Trenton beating Jones Senior 72-71 in overtime. East's Jack Garrison hit a three at the buzzer to force overtime at 61-61.
In the overtime Jones had the ball down one with 8.6 seconds but missed a driving shot. After a wild scramble the mariners grabbed the ball as the horn sounded.
Tomorrow East will travel to Havelock to play the 3-A Rams. The mariners will have to find some energy
to keep it close.

Groundhog day! East's Jack Garrison hit a three with 1.6 left to send game in overtime at 58-58. The mariners play well in the OT to win 74-61 at Havelock.

First place in the Coastal Plains 1-A will be at stake tonight as the Pamlico Hurricanes travel to Beaufort to battle the East Carteret Mariners. Both teams enter the game with 9-1 conference records. The Canes won earlier at Pamlico 71-65 snapping Easts long conference winning streak.
Also in the girls game the top two conference teams will meet. The first place Hurricanes thumped the lady Mariners earlier for their only conference loss.

The Mariners defeated the Pamlico Hurricanes 71-44 at East. The Mariners after being tied at two led the rest of the game being ahead 31-18 at the half. The lead was 15 after three and the Mariners pulled away in the fourth for the victory.
In the girls game the Lady Mariners upset the #7 Lady Hurricanes 49-46. The Mariners led 32-17 at the half but had to hold off the Hurricanes in the second half for the win.

East Carteret clinched first place in the Coastal Plains with a 86-35 victory over Bear Grass Charter.

The Mariners lose to Jones Senior 72-68 in overtime in the Coastal Plains final. The Mariners led by ten late in the fourth quarter only to watch Jones bury open threes and East turned the ball over several times.
The mariners had a chance with 5 seconds left in regulation and down one at the line shooting two. The first was made tying the game but the second one missed sending the game in overtime. East beat Northside 88-49 in the semi's.
The lady mariners lost to Pamlico 51-36 in the finals.

After beating Louisburg and then defeating NC Preps #5 ranked Voyager Academy the Mariners will hit the road. East will travel to Durham to meet the NC Prep #4 Ranked Kestral Heights.
The Mariners have played well the last two games despite losing a starter who has not played since the regular season ended.
Hope all the Mariner Fans have safe travel Saturday.

The East Carteret Mariners season ended with a 71-61 loss at Kestral Heights. East led by eight at the half but when East's only big man Roberet Johnson picked up his third and fourth fouls early in the third quarter the game turned against East. The Mariners battled hard but could get no closer than five.
Next year East will be in a new conference with new kids.
