Any idea who might be a good candidate for the next coach at EB football.

Tough spot to win at in my opinion especially if they stay with the Catawba county schools.
Maybe a young up and comer would be good.

This one is gonna be way tough. I just don’t wanna see them slide down to Cherryville, Highland Tech, Rosman, Avery Co level. Guess you could throw Madison in with that too.
Best bet for East Burke would be a young and upcoming assistant coach locally someone from like Patton, or Draughn maybe an assistant from Freedom or around the unifour area somewhere!! There has to be someone who could come in and build a program there in the next few years!!!
Tough place to coach for sure. Coach Minor had them doing the best they could do with the conference being so tough. You have to have the right players to win at EB. It will be interesting to see who they get! I have a grandkid still playing so I wish them the best!! Hard to believe after 20 years of coaching and rebuilding programs at 4 schools he is not missing coaching!!No more drama.
Would EB want Mike Helms or his son or neither 😀? I assume if you get one, you may get both but maybe not.
I believe Helms is coordinator for Bandys right now, not sure if he has QB to try to run what Bandys runs but good coaches adjust to their players.

I've seen the petition. That was his first head coaching job. I don't the power that be will allow it.

East burke fans have always been hard to please in all honesty. I remember a few years ago hearing several people standing around talking about how bad of a coach Tom brown was and anyone knows he's one of the best to ever coach. Heard the same stuff said about helms, harper and biggerstaff. I know all schools have people Ike that and most people I know from east burke are good people but there's alot you cannot please
I think Coach Minor is happy to be done with this school!!He is moving on with his life sounds like might have been a blessing getting away from East Burke!!
No Don't think so for now He said the other week. He has a son playing sports just enjoy watching him sounds like!!
50 years and they've won one state championship (1A/2A indoor track) and played in one state championship game (2A girls' basketball). Both just in the last few years. They must be frustrated with that performance. Even Patton made it to a state title game before the Cavs (3A baseball only a few years after opening).
They never won in anything much since the split hope they get what they want for football. unless you get in a easy conference 2or 3 win at the max!!
4 high schools were too much. It spent too much money on building too than it would have just building one or having freshman academies. I personally miss the old fat friday games and kinda wish it was back to just freedom and eb. I still feel they should consolidate Patton and draughn somehow. Sent salem mull Hillcrest drexel and valdese to on and the RC kids to eb.
So True this was the downfall of the schools. I see Patton getting better. Draughn will get worst they had a bad jv team the last two years. I think and losing a good Sr class.
This comes up every time we talk about Burke County schools. The plan was to build a third high school, but the people in Valdese wanted their “own school” and they had enough power on the school board to make it happen, but it wasn’t feasible to put the third school there, so they decided on four.
If we had three they would probably have about 1200 kids each and all be in a 6A conference. But even if we still had two, Freedom would have about 2100 and E. Burke about 1500. We could have a 6A/7A conference with McDowell and Freedom as 7A and then Watauga, SC, EB and AC as 6A. Now we send schools to all the borders of the state to be in different conferences and nobody is allowed to that competitive on a consistent basis.
