CVAC 2021 - Round 3 (11/19) Salisbury at Maiden

I’d like to start with West Lincoln….my adopted team as Grizz puts it….yeah…I do have a soft spot for the Johnny’s. Me and my WL brother, from another mother, have been going to playoff games for many many years. In fact…he’ll be at Maiden this week to see Salisbury….pulling for whoever is behind. That’s what we do! We go to see the best game and pull for the team that’s behind!
He walked up before the West Lincoln -Maiden game and said…gotta feeling y’all might blow us out…if it gets too bad…you know my boys will fight!😂😂😂…I said…..We know!😂😂😂

The Rebel faithful….love their team and it shows! What a crowd they had last Friday night. The visitor side was packed… bleachers were at full capacity and prolly a couple hundred sitting on the hill and standing up! I love those type of games! Two communities showing full support by BEING THERE….at the game…yelling and screaming with all they got! It don’t get any better than that. The Bunker Hill-Maiden game was the exact same way! Packed house!….great environment for these young ‘uns to go at it on the field! That’s what makes high school football so fun to watch. Living and dying on each play!….something they’ll remember for a lifetime! I’ll certainly remember it! That’s good stuff!

Congrats to our CVAC brothers and sisters….West Lincoln and Bunker Hill…..for another magnificent football season!

CVAC 2022 is gonna be a dog fight! I just know it! Wait and see!😉

Interesting tidbit….on Max Preps strength of schedule for the remaining 2a playoff teams.

Monroe has played the toughest schedule so far in the West.

Wallace Rose Hill has played the toughest schedule so far in the East.

For what’s it’s worth!….I guess we’ll see!

Conversely…and I’m sure this will be misconstrued as my 1st thrown rock!😂😂

The weakest SOS would be….

Salisbury in the west!

Whiteville in the east!

We’ll see!

Any outsider with no knowledge would look at that and say that this game comes down to 2 questions:

1. What does a Salisbury team that has to play 4 full quarters looks like...will they be gassed?
2. When faced with adversity, how will Salisbury respond?

Answer - non of those questions matter. It's Salisbury and those Seniors answered all those questions their sophomore and junior years.

#6 Salisbury (undefeated)
#3 Maiden (undefeated) *only team in the state with 12 wins

Here we are again...the "at home-underdogs"...except in the 3rd round instead of the 1st. I truly believe the winner of this game, sans-injuries, will be the State Champs.

For the Season (including playoffs):
Avg PF - S=56 and M=40
Avg PA - S=3 and M=7
Opponents kept to 1 score - S=10 and M=9
Shutouts pitched - S=8 and M=4

Just the Playoffs:
Avg PF - S=49 and M=42
Avg PA - S=3 and M=3.5
Opponents kept to 1 score - S=2 and M=2
Shutouts pitched - S=1 and M=1

These teams met in the 1st round last year. Salisbury came out on fire and we were smacked in the mouth. The rest is history and the state champs have returned for a round 2 in round 3. Salisbury has an amazing group of seniors and have gotten comfortable winning playoff games on the road over the past few years. They are full of athletes/studs. Their eyes are set on a return to state.

Maiden was full of sophomores last year and what senior leadership they did have was lacking. They were immature and mouthy on social media, but in reality were largely wimps in person. They are all graduated adults now and I can get that off my chest. That game last year was lost before we took the field. This set of now juniors this year know different and are very hungry...and our seniors are true emotional leaders. Our coaching, especially defensive, has improved the most I've seen while a Maiden fan. The leap from one year to the next has been exponential.

We haven't played anyone like Salisbury this year. Christ School had some very lean/tall/speedy athletes and are the best comp to Salisbury. Salisbury hasn't played anyone like Maiden this year with Thomasville being the stiffest competition they've seen. The only opponent we've both played is Bunker Hill, no competition...I think it helps (along with the stats mentioned above) to show how close these two teams are. I love how amazing both of the defenses are...absolutely smothering.

I believe schedules overall have benefitted Maiden more; Salisbury (no fault of their own) hasn't been able to face anyone remotely solid yet. Salisbury has been hot all year and Maiden is burning it up and peaking at the right time.

This is an overtime type of game to me. The energy here at Maiden...in the players...in the coaches...everything has culminated to this exact point in time where we get what we have desired since the spring...a shot at redemption. Don't get it twisted...this isn't about revenge...we were out right beat and I believe in the spring if we had played our best game we still would have lost. This isn't about revenge...this is redemption. This will be our best game, our best foot forward, for ourselves. We've proven to ourselves how great we can be and that we are a much better team than last year...now it is time to show everyone else. The Maiden team I saw at Bunker Hill and against West Lincoln last week is best in 2A. We play like that and I love our chances. Might even go jump in Pinch Gut Creek!!

As good as these offenses are - the defenses will rule most of this game. This will be the lowest scoring game of all 8 2A games this Friday night.

#3 Maiden 29 - #6 Salisbury 28

Play violent through the whistle and keep your head on a swivel. Go Big Blue!

Love this!!!! Here’s hoping both teams remain healthy this week and throughout the game on Friday. Good luck to both teams!

I have never been to Maiden to watch a game so I’m gonna fix that 😂 I do believe this will be a very good game. We played Salisbury and they were a thing of beauty... We also played Hendo and Shelby and I couldn’t tell you who was the better team between those 3 actually
All I can say is make sure you eat before you come and get there early. Will be a packed house and the concessions team has rec league talent.

😂 that’s most concessions and yeah I like to get to games really early... especially a big game like this.
I ask my son who he thought was the best team we played this year and he said Salisbury as a complete team .... but I’m gonna say Shelby made us look the worse. We could get a stop on everyone but Shelby. I think we stopped the starters 2 times

Ya know….I would imagine that Polk County is the only team that played 3 of the 8 remaining 2a playoff contenders. There might be someone else…but I doubt it. You’ve seen more than the rest of us. Your comparison of the 3 teams you’ve seen….being equally good…is a little troubling!😁 Have mercy!
Will those 3 teams…all win, or all lose, or somewhere in the middle? This 3rd round is gonna be sump’em else.

Wishing we had a local poster from Bunker Hill that saw both Maiden and Salisbury….or a local poster that knows someone that saw both teams that would share their opinion. Heck!…I would enjoy reading anyones opinion..that saw a couple or more of the teams that are still left in the 2a brackets.

Don’t get me wrong…I enjoy reading all the hometeam stuff too!
Just thought I would mention it…seeing if someone might share….like Mopar did. 😉

I was told by a friend that viewed both games with Salisbury and said Maiden should win. IMO it might come down to special teams and field position. Sounded like Bunker hit some big plays that were called back due to penalties. If it is close at the half , Maiden gets the nod. I think Salisbury will win but you never know. That is why they play the game . If Salisbury’s defense is a good as advertised, this might turn into a low scoring affair. We all know Maiden has one of the best defenses in entire area.
Special teams and big play ability will play a big part. Win turnover and penalty battle.

Who's head is screwed on the straightest?

I think also is how the game gets started. Will be important to get a quick score and keep momentum going. If possible get up 2 scores. I agree win the turnover and penalty battle. Take advantage of any mistakes from other team.

I have seen Salisbury play on line a couple of times this year and have seen Maiden at least three times. I see the QB for Maiden as the X factor in this game for the Blue Devils. The DL for the Hornets gets after you, and that All American LB is hard as heck to block. The Blue Devils will have to chose to run block or pass block if Salisbury gets to the Maiden QB. On the other hand Maiden has a solid defense. Salisbury has some good speed and the play selection will vary slightly from last year's run heavy attack. The Hornets have a capable QB to run their offensive strategy. This game could come down to the last quarter of play. I always refer to the old saying, "defense wins championships".

Doubt they’ll say that! Looking forward to seeing a game in the stadium that former college teammate Keith Henry loves so much! I think we’ll get our money’s worth tomorrow! Here’s to a hard fought, clean game! Hope my Hornets can pull it out!
Back atcha! dallashornet. That’s good stuff! Hoping it’s a classic!

Coffee is good this morning….nothing better than a quiet house…other than Boog!…over here snoring😂…,great time for reflection!…my favorite time of the day. Well….it’s on!…like donkey kong…this evening. The excitement, the anticipation…it’s good stuff!

I remember sitting beside a Salisbury mother at the Salisbury-Burns game in the spring. Watching her live and die on each play ….that’s what it’s all about!
There’s gonna be a lot of that tonight! Both teams wanna win…for the boys, the school, the community! I must say…Salisbury is a top notch program and their players, coaches and fans are a class act! I mean that!
Best of luck to both teams….please know…I’ll be like the Salisbury mother….living and dying…..I’m taking the Boom Devils on a successful conversion at the end to win it!….in yet another Epic Game at Thomas E. Brown stadium! I can’t wait!

BTW….that Salisbury mother….her boy kicked the game winner at Burns! ❤️
Can you imagine? Now!…that’s good stuff!

Maiden Creek - that's definitely what it's about! Enjoyed hearing that story. I've been in her shoes a few times myself with relatives playing.

Can't wait to see these two go at it tonight. Best of luck to your Blue Devils. Go get 'em!

I must say it’s games like tonight that take me back to my playing days. Crisp chill in the air, The Town of Maiden buzzing, and a great team in Salisbury coming to Thomas E. Brown Stadium. Folks this is what high football is all about. I have a lot or respect for Salisbury Coaches and players, I was able to talk to several before and after the spring game and they were all class. Safe travels to all fans coming to the game and as biggestblue always ended his post with “Let The Smoke Roll”
