Today 4:30 at Crest. Winner is the 1 seed going into playoffs. Other team will get the 2

I saw Coach Wright a couple weeks ago at the gas station and talked to him, this is a lean year per middle school last few years standards, but they have a couple athletes .... there are some good ones coming up from the CCYFL league for the Burns program... I went and watched UC the other week against Shelby intermediate and it was 52-0 for the midget team, they have some ballers..not much size but speed, athleticism and a couple that arent afraid to hit...

Did not play either team. Crest and Burns were supposed to play the first game of the year but covid stuck it's nose in. Crest played Gaffney that week.

I think the 2 top seeds in the east are 1-East Lincoln and 2-Kings Mountain.

That Gaffney QB was really good. Gaffney High may win a state championship with that kid.

Thanks for the information. Seems like we always have athletes and speed, but can never find the size like Crest and Shelby can. Fingers crossed we don't see any transfers.

In another wild wild wild Crest/Shelby game, Crest wins 14-12. Next week Crest will host Kings Mtn and Shelby travels to East Lincoln. Winners play in Tri-County Championship in 2 weeks.

So… Crest kicked off to Shelby with 20 seconds left. Shelby has the ball with around 12 seconds left and the clock starts??? Shouldn’t a play happen before the clock starts running? Clock operator started the clock before the ball was even snapped. Time ran out and refs allowed it.

I was told that the clock started on the change of possession. I thought they had to run a play. White hat wound the clock at 20. Coach for Shelby ran out to talk to official at 8 seconds. He went back to sidelines and I don't know if he called a TO during their discussion. White hat wound the clock again and time ran out. I thought Shelby had one more possession for a hail Mary pass. It wasn't the clock operator. Head official signaled to start the clock both times. Will be interesting if these 2 teams get together again in 2 weeks. Crest will host KM next week and Shelby travels to East Lincoln.

Found this...

Whether the clock is on the wind or the snap is based on what caused the previous play to end, per 3-4-3.

The summary one of my colleagues came up with is that for NFHS code, if any of the following 10 things happen during a play - the so-called "major clock stoppers" - the clock will start on the snap or when a free kick is legally touched:

a - the ball goes out of bounds
b - B or R is awarded a new series
c - either team is awarded a new series following a legal kick
d - the ball becomes dead behind either goal line
e - a legal or illegal forward pass is incomplete
f - a request for a charged, or radio/TV, timeout is granted
g - a period ends
h - a team attempts to consume time illegally
i - the penalty for a delay of game foul is accepted
j - a fair catch is made

Seems like Shelby should of gotten the ball with clock stopped by this. Are there different rules at Middle School level? Need an official to explain.

Shelby coach wasn't there due to quarantine.
Now maybe after a loss this Shelby team will play to there potential.
All year people feel they aren't up for games etc.
I'm sure next game will be one to see,
You can Bet!

Shelby middle had two timeouts remaining and failed to call one.

It appeared complaining to the officials was more important. Maybe that's a breakdown since their coach wasn't able to attend due to quarantine.

I hate that for the kids, but it was a fun game to watch.

#23 and #30 for SMS looked very good.

#2, #5, and #1 for CMS looked very good. I can't wait to see these kids play on Fridays!
