New Bern lost over 20 kids to covid related issues in late January. Their JV team has 18 kids on the squad as a majority of them had to be placed on Varsity heading into week 1.

The Bears scored on their first drive of the season against Rose and their SR QB gets ejected after diving away from a defender into the end zone. They later on gave up multiple TD's on a 80-yard fumble return and a 75-yard kick off return before the wheels came off in the 2nd half.

New Bern did what they were supposed to do last week in blowing out C.B. Aycock.

Fast forward to tonight. NB, like the Rose game, came up empty on multiple drives stalling both in the red zone and the opponents side of the field.

Conley jumps out to a 15-0 lead in the 3rd quarter. Conley has the ball inside the 10 looking for a 3 score lead until NB stops them stone cold. New Bern then drives 90+ yards and cuts it to 15-8. Conley punts and New Bern gets the ball back and again, stalls inside the Conley 5 with a fumble. Conley gets the ball back, NB again holds them and scores quickly on a short field and goes up 16-15.

Now, the fun part.

Conley gets the ball around their own 30 yard line. They move the ball on some big plays and have the ball inside the 10 with 12 seconds left.

QB drops back.....throws it to his left....jump ball......INTERCEPTION BY THE STUD SOPHOMORE FOR THE BEARS......BEARS WIN!!!! 16-15!!!!!!!!

That Sophomore CB is legit, good catch. I thought we would've gone for it near mid field as the QB had success almost all night running, but it worked out. D was pretty good all night outside of a few big plays via the air. They needed a good W like this, gotta get that momentum and chemistry. Another big game on Saturday.

The D was holding them late in the 2nd half but I thought they'd run a toss play or let the QB run it. Either way, I can breathe easy for a few days.

Whatever happened to that stud rb New Bern had last year? Did he graduate, if so, is he now going to college to play?

He's on the team but they're using about 5 guys to tote the rock this year as the RB also plays MLB on defense.

Sure have, didn't claim we were the only ones. We haven't played a Friday game yet and now our Saturday game against Eastern Wayne has just been postponed. Just gotta keep riding out the storm! Go Bears!
