Ki Rankin, one of the Rams key defensive linemen in the 2018 state championship season, won the Mideast Regional wrestling tournament's 220-pound division today (2-9-19) despite having missed most of the season with an injury. He wrestled only three matches in the season but came off the DL just in time to win four straight matches to take the regional title.
Ki, only a sophomore, won three of his matches (including the final) with pins. His four wins came against wrestlers with a combined 81-28 record.
Reidsville, which is experiencing a rebirth in the sport of wrestling (thanks in part to some outstanding coaching), had two other regional winners, helping them to third in the team standings behind Trinity and Ledford.
Good luck to regional champs Rankin, Elijah Boyd (113 pounds) and Cody Williams (138) in the state tournament next weekend.

Check out this website ... the best I've ever seen for prep wrestling:

That link didn't work for me when I tested it so just go to trackwrestling.com ... click events and then put NCHSAA and follow the links to all the results.

I expect ki to get some football offers. Ki could probably play linebacker if needed next year

Thanks TGT for this info, Ki sustained a Hairline Fracture in his hip. Anything worst and he would have been out until this time next year. But because of his youth and still going through puberty his fracture completely healed in 5 weeks by staying off of it. He actually wrestled and won a match on it because it was thought to have been a Hip Flexor strain. Not until he went to the doctor the next day was the hairline Fractured discovered.

And congrats Stan for the outstanding middle school program. I talked to Ki at a basketball game in January when I saw him on crutches and was sad to see his wrestling season cut short. Amazing comeback/great story.

Ki is one of two sophomores in the state 2-A bracket at 220 pounds. His 7-0 record is quite a contrast to the other three regional champs who are 37-2, 44-2 and 41-1. Tournament starts Thursday in Greensboro.

The kid with the 41-1 record is the defending State Champ. He Beat Don Don Pinnix last year in the finals. If Ki wins the 1st 2 rounds he will meet him in the semi's.

220 Lbs. Championship Finals in 2018
1st Place Match - Zachariah Bare (Ashe County, 39-1) won by fall over Kenneth Pinnix (Reidsville, 22-3) Fall 2:29

Kenneth "Don Don" Pinnix is now a DL at Emory and Henry College. He had 22 tackles in 8 games for E&H last fall.

TGT...he wants it for all time....he's trying to get a list of every Reidsville person or team that has won a state title in any sport....a tough thing to research........
