SP is still tough, still well coached and still a factor. We lack a home run hitter on offense as we have had for many years. I should say, we may have them, but we are trying not to have to use them. Not working so far.
This may change soon because above all our staff hates to lose. We have outstanding personnel on the line on both sides. We have to figure out how to find skill guys behind them. We figured that out last year and will do the same this year.
This year's team is actually potentially better, but work must be done. The defense is better, the line is better and the coaching is the same. Sounds good to me!
Noise will be made this year like every other. Just got to quit experimenting.
Last comment, this year 2 platoon may not be in our best interest. I understand it, but it may not be the key this year. RM didn't do it.
Great game by Shelby. Love watching the Borders kid play. So explosive. ECU steals another stud from the big schools.
Watched the game live and again this morning on TV. It is my opinion that this Shelby team is the best team SP has played in the three seasons I have been closely following SP. Yes...this Shelby team is better than either of the Crest teams that won 32 in a row. Why do I say that? Because they have so many playmakers on offense, and their defense is very stout. Not as stout as the Crest defense two years ago, but the offensive firepower more than makes up the difference. SP needs help on offense, our defense actually played well but tired late. Impressive win for the Lions...
Let's go ahead and give Shelby the 1A, 1AA, 2A, 2AA, 3A, 3AA, 4A, and 4AA trophies. There is obviously no reason for anyone to play another game this season.

Shelby is a great team and should roll this year. I do not see anybody beating them. Shame that my Raiders have one of their better defenses but clearly have some significant offensive issues. Mick knows a lot more than I do, but I would love to see them bring the Bruton kid up from JV and put him in a rotation and see if we can get the FB position giving us a little more. Alexander could split some time at FB and safety and give Mead some time in the QB rotation. That may not make much difference, but we certainly would not have scored fewer points last night. Again, kudos to a very good Lions team and we will be pulling for you to bring home another trophy this year.
I've always enjoyed watching South Point play ball ! Tough hard nosed kids that just bring it every play...
They start those kids learning at the youth level that brand of ball and it is a huge reason they are so successful at what they do
I expect them to make some noise in the playoffs ... Tough defense this season
We have been lucky the last few years at Shelby watching these kids break all kinds of school records Borders this season is on a torrid pace , and Surratt before he graduates I suspect will break the all time passing mark at Shelby
Hollifield is just an absolute beast I believe I heard 13 tackles and two forced fumbles ... He may just break his own 200 plus tackle Mark again .... It's been an absolute joy to watch these kids play

Congratulations to Shelby. I didn't make it to the game, driving from VA plus a forecast of sitting in the rain just didn't add up to a great evening. After seeing the game results it appears I made the right decision. Would have been a long drive back. It appears Shelby has it all this year. Only seeing the Golden Lions whip the Chargers later will help ease the Red Raider pain. SP will be ok this year considering their weak conference but last night proved they are not in the same league with the likes of Shelby this year.
SP is a good team, not a great team by any stretch of the imagination. Shelby is a great team defensively, but no where near as good offensively as the two previous yrs. They don't have as many weapons offensively and the QB at this time is not near as good as George or Lee. He's pretty good, but NOT in the same class as those guys right now The OL is NOT as good either. The QB and OL will get better as the yr goes, but once again, the offense is not up to par with the Shelby '14 & '15 teams. I'm not taking anything away from SP or Shelby, but, it is what it is. As far as this yrs Shelby team being better than the past two Crest teams, idk we're not talking day and night here, but I don't agree. Just ask Seadog.....he knows. Shelby and SP both are better than Crest, especially at this time. Once again, not slamming SP or Shelby, just stating an opinion. Would like to hear from the SP and Shelby crowd to see if they think I'm that far off base..... I'll close saying Shelby's defense is really fast, good, etc and better than last yrs, not sure it's as good as the '14 team toward the end of the yr. The '14 defense ended up being fast and physical. The '14/'15 offense seemed to be a good bit better. Just saying.....
I believe last years Shelby offense was the best in the state.We had a experienced O line with a senior QB that had a NFL arm and skill players everywhere.I do believe our offense will get better as we go just not as many quick scoring weapons out there.I believe our defense is better than the last two years.With that said we have a lot to work on including stopping some of these penalities.But I will take 3 and 0 against 3A opponents out scoring them 110 to 14.
This shelby Team may be the most balanced we have seen of the last 4 years. Offense isnt as consistent but has the best weapon on the field and can break it open at any point. As far as Shelby D being as good as the Crest Bulldogs? those 2 county teams that Crest put on the field last year and year before were special, had great players all over the field and county. hard to duplicate that. Shelby D now is very tough and no slouch.
The defense this year is better than last year and last year was very good. This defense is one more year of maturity. Lee had a great arm but no legs, or at least he didn't use them. Surratt has a good arm but could be a serious threat to run as well. Wright will be missed and Camp gave Shelby open field breakaway ability.
Defense wins championships. Its the defense that gives short fields to work with. There was no fall off with this defense really. SP gained on defense but their offense has fell off in the backfield. Thus the inability to score. ACR had no Rico Dowdy but they still have a team that will win the conference. Freedom, well that's on the scheme and decisions outside of the players.
All the conference games will be won by half time except the Crest game. That game will be a closer than most think at this point in the season. Crest has all the pieces defensively. The offensive line for Crest is the key. The running back that played on kickoffs and punts has all the ability to go to the house if the line gets him 4 yards of forward progress. If 9-2 with a loss to SP and Shelby is a bad year then 95% of the coaches in the state should have applications in the mail. 94/96 you guys are spoiled turds. Be glad the bus has someone on it and is not parked come playoff time. Thank goodness tears don't stain concrete.

Yup , especially when the SP loss comes in week 1. I suspect Crest makes that SHelby game tight and then still goes to the regional final or beyond. Boat load of talent still. Going 3 years in a row dominating everyone your bound to catch a year where it takes 3 or 4 games to break new kids in. Happens to every elite program.
agreed, It takes kids a few weeks to get acclimated with their new school, classes and schedule.
Burns will not allow recruiters on campus till after January, Shelby kids refuse to pull their teeth to assimilate, South Carolina locked down the border once one kid got out, and budget cuts have disallowed milage expenses. There is one vestige available- Belmont. Little hands and little feet.
Turds to some people....or the envious. We are the mighty mighty Crest Chargers and are hated. That's what makes it fun......
I don't hate Crest or envy Crest. I just know when visiting to keep my left hand over my anus and head on a swivel listening for banjo music. Now that's real defense in Boilin Sprangs.
