Not football related...I’m heading up to Cherokee this weekend with my GF...were staying at the Rivers Edge motel over looking the river with a balcony....were mainly going for the casinos because I’ve never done anything like that before, what are some other places to visit and places to eat at,hiking trails ect? Anyone from the surrounding area are welcome to comment as well, thanks

In my opinion... outside of the casino, there's really nothing good to eat or do in Cherokee besides trout fishing. Also, just FYI mandatory mask on the rez currently. 30'ish minute drive west and your in Gatlinburg, TN and literally whatever you want is at your disposal. Bryson City is also next door and has a few good eateries. Couple of good breweries (Nantahala Brewing Co (Bryson/Sylva), Lazy Hiker Brewery (Franklin), Boojum, Frog Level, (Waynesville) Innovation Brewing (Sylva) are close by as well if that's up your alley. Waynesville is about 20 minutes east of Cherokee and has a lot better food and retail options too.

Go to Innovation Brewing in Sylva and get a burger from the truck that parks outside. Haywood Smokehouse in Dillsboro is also pretty good, but you may not think so coming from Davidson County! Nantahala River rafting companies are all about 30 minutes southwest of Cherokee on 74 if you’re into rafting/kayaking. There’s also a restaurant overlooking the river at the end of the run. Deep Creek Campground in Bryson City has tubing and some short hikes with waterfall views. 15 minute drive from Cherokee. A little farther down off 74 in the Nantahala gorge, the hike to Wesser Firetower from the AT has a huge 360 view payoff and is only maybe a mile and a half each way in and back. It’s probably a 45 minute drive from Cherokee. The drive to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge is gorgeous and like PisgahCatamount said, lots of dining/shopping/entertainment on the other side.

Granny’s is my go to, but the buffet is closed at the moment. I will second Cades Cove. Rent a bicycle for the loop. Stop off and look in all the old churches and other buildings.

The loop at Cade’s Cove is eleven miles. It’s wonderful if you’re used to riding a bike. Not what it was a few years ago, but still good. I’m assuming that it’s still closed to motorized traffic on Wednesday and Saturday mornings.
They call Gatlinburg Myrtle Beach in the mountains for a reason. I’ll leave it at that.
