CCC - Week One Picks

What are your picks? Week One - August 23

North Davidson @ Parkland
Central Davidson @ Bishop McGuinness
West Davidson @ Wheatmore
East Davidson @ Providence Grove
Lexington vs Walkertown
Thomasville @ Albemarle
Ledford vs Glenn
South Rowan @ Carson
Salisbury @ North Rowan
Oak Grove @ Trinity
 
Road warriors, as only 2 of 10 teams host for week 1.

I’m going to pick the following:
North Davidson over Parkland. (Toss up. New coach being my biggest reason)
Central Davidson over Bishop. (I should pick Bishop, but Central apparently is being tricky on “O” this year)
Wheatmore over West Davidson (no question. West is a mess)
East Davidson over Providence Grove (Hanner is back on track)
Lexington over Walkertown (no clue what Walkertown has, but I hear good things about Lex’s new coach)
Thomasville over Albemarle (again, this is a decision based on a coaching staff)
Glenn over Ledford (Ledford’s new defense needs to prove itself)
Carson over South Rowan (Surely I can’t miss this one)
North Rowan over Salisbury (both pretty good teams, we’ll see)
Oak Grove over Trinity (Trinity is a mess. Oak Grove wins big)

It was a tossup pick, honestly. I would love for the Golden Eagles to win, I hope they do! ED and PG always seems to be a tight game.

Ledford/Glen & ND/Parkland games will set the tone for the conference. It will help give a good prediction on the top few teams in the league. Maybe the two most athletic/speed opponents anyone in the conference will see all year before playoffs. Maybe add North Rowan. A great test for both teams. Just my opinion!

The Salisbury-North Rowan and South Rowan-Carson games will be played tonight. SR-Carson game starts at 7, and the NR-Salisbury game starts at 7:30.

I’ve heard some talk of some of the CCC schools feeling like they’d probably have to move their games due to rain. If anyone hears anything, please post! I’m heading to Trinity tonight to watch Oak Grove. If that gets rained out, I might opt for Parkland vs ND.

That was the case last year.. Ledford’s offense was way worse than it should have been.

Oak Grove was up 54-0 with a running clock in the 3rd quarter when the lightning finally got too close for comfort. That may have been the worst football team I’ve ever seen. Bad in all phases of the game.

Ledford HC makes zero adjustments. He got outcoached badly tonight. Heard alot of ppl in the stands were disappointed. Ledford is in for a LONG season. I definitely see them as the 4th best team in the CCC depending what ND and Thomasville and Lexington look like
 
Ledford fans should not be shocked. Chris Adams has always been a marginal football coach at best. They had a good run of athletes come through there with 3A numbers playing 2A ball until next realignment that helped their cause. They were possibly the worst offensive team I’ve ever seen make it to a state semifinal game which was a testament to their defense, but also the down year in 2A. It was pathetic.

People in the stands will always be disappointed in a lose. FIRE THE COACH!!! Last year they loved him. He’s a good coach and will be ok. We talking about a Glenn team that would probably finish First in the CCC. Ledford will be fine in conference play. If not, then they have a right to be disappointed.

Well Glenn is not in the CCC, they are a 4a team. Regardless of that fact, they are solid. But I think the people are right that the Panthers HC did not make any adjustments and expected better results from the same plays. Ledford will probably find it’s footing, or it might not, and simply be a mediocre team.

I’ve been lucky enough to be on the receiving end of a few Cushwa Dogs in my lifetime. Personally, I can’t wait until I find myself there again. I’ll eat a minimum of 2... but likely I’ll go ahead and buy 4. They are excellent AND pretty doggone cheap too!

Glenn is a decent ball club but Ledford was never a force until they dropped to 2A with 3A numbers. Quality depth at the 2A level is a difference maker and they have had that against their peers no doubt. Glenn will struggle against the better part of their schedule. Ledford will be fine Bc of what they have and who they are playing. They have a great defensive scheme and the kids are disciplined. That beats a lot
Of teams most nights at their level. And I didn’t mean it as a knock on Chris Adams but everybody knows it in the coaching community. He simply isn’t a coach that can deviate from the plan and still find success. Based on the personnel they have on offense, they should have maybe not overhauled their scheme but certainly implemented formations and schemes that complement the offensive players they have. They aren’t big enough nor fast enough to line up like they do and just play. Got to make adjustments on that size.

Got to disagree with you. Glenn is decent team not impressed by them either. This is coaching 101. If something doesn't work. Switch it up. Offense very predictable. Qb is better good player. Ledford should thank God it was Glenn they played. South Point, Shelby, Reidsville, Tarboro probably would beat them 60-0. They were that bad

That was what I thought when I saw that OG/Trinity score. I thought, can Trinity be that bad or is Oak Grove really that improved? Congrats to Coach Holcomb for scheduling two cupcakes for the first 2 games.

I saw Bishop scrimmage East and a couple of other teams and their defense is not very good. The only thing they seemed to be good at is the pass game, no run game that I could see. They had a couple of tall receivers with good hands. But if a team brings pressure on Bishop then they should be able to disrupt their passing and I imagine what Central did. Central has some hard nosed kids and from what I saw they run that double wing well. They don't have a lot of size but do have a few quick, athletics kids. Whoever plays them will have to figure out how to stop it or it could be a long night.

I agree that the two non-conference games are very weak. Scratching my head on that one.

Oak Grove has a solid defense and they’ve got a nice, hard nosed running game. Looks like their stand out tight end might be injured, as he didn’t play last night.

So, you’re correct on both ends. Oak Grove is improved. Trinity is awful!

The question that I have now is, who is worse, Trinity or Jordan Matthews?
