OG 4-1 overall, 4-0 in the CCC has two tough games left. The Grizzlies will be favored this week against Thomasville but has never beat the Bulldogs currently 0-3 in the series. The Bulldogs have been the under "dog" the last three years but seem to find a way to outscore OG with big plays and get the win. OG then finishes the season with a rival game against ND who will be 5-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCC after this Friday. ND is a good team so that will be a great ball game. These two weeks will make or break their season and playoff opportunity/seeding. OG will make the playoffs either way, just depends how the last two weeks work out for them. A loss and a win can still set up a tie for the CCC title with North who beat Thomasville already. OG beat Ledford and Salisbury to secure a top two spot regardless.
ND 4-1 overall 4-0 in the CCC and playing some good football right now has an easy game this week and then faces OG next Friday night. The Knights have a heck of a passing game and can score quickly. ND has made strong runs in the playoffs the last 3-4 seasons so they will be in the playoffs. Two wins secures the CCC title and gives the Knights the #1 seed. A lose to OG gives them the #2 CCC spot in the playoffs or a tie for #1 if Thomasville beats OG this week. ND beat Ledford and Salisbury already to secure a top 2 spot already.
Ledford 3-2, Salisbury 3-2 are out of the running for the CCC title with two loses each. Both have lost to OG and ND. Ledford-Salisbury play this week with the winner securing a tie for 3rd and a 5-2 overall, 4-2 CCC record. The winner should get the remaining CCC top 3 playoff spot because Salisbury beat Central Davidson head to head. Loser will be 5th place at 4-3 overall, 3-3 on CCC play. Both have easy wins against bottom dweller CCC schools next week to finish the regular season. Ledford held on for a close win against Thomasville 46-44 in overtime two weeks ago and lost to OG by two last week. Both lost to OG and ND so this one is a toss up. Winner is sitting good for playoffs, loser probably stays home.
Central Davidson has two easy blowout games coming up to finish 5-2 overall 4-2 in CCC. The Spartans post season opportunity will likely be decided this week in the Ledford-Salisbury game.
CD lost to Salisbury and has not played Ledford head to head. A Salisbury win secures the #3 spot in the CCC and a playoff game knocking CD down to 4th place and a possible wildcard playoff spot. A Ledford win ties them for #3 with CD. Not sure if a coin flip wins the #3 or Ledford gets it by virtue of a win over Salisbury who beat CD head to head. This week will tell the story of all three and their playoff hopes/opportunity.
Thomasville 1-2 overall and 1-2 in the CCC. Have OG, ED and Lexington remaining. A huge win this week over OG would be a huge boost for the Dogs playoff chances. Worst case the Dogs lose to OG, beat East and Lexington and go 3-3 overall 3-3 in the CCC and tie for 5th. Best case the Dogs continue the streak of 3-0 all time versus OG and finish 4-2 on the season setting them up to tie for 3rd and possibly make the playoffs. #3 in the CCC could be a three way tie with THS, CD, Ledford or Salisbury if the Dogs win out. Their playoff hopes are still alive, but the OG game looms large in that quest to get in and secure a winning season for the 3rd straight year helping to erase the memory of two tough seasons in 2016 and 2017.
East Davidson 2-2 beats West again this week and loses to Ledford bad next week to finish 3-3 overall. Not a bad year for the Golden Eagles and shortened season saves them a losing record. East leaves the current CCC alignment and will not have to play Ledford, Central, Oak Grove or North on conference the next four years. But is does not get any easier getting into the top tier of the new 1A/2A league with Thomasville, North Rowan and Salisbury in the mix.
S Rowan is 2-3 and will lose big the next two weeks to Central Davidson and Salisbury to finish 2-5 overall as they finish up their four year term in the CCC and head to another league in 21-22. Not sure if they will seek any non-conference games with current CCC teams since it has not went well for them the last four years. Time will tell.
West Davidson beat Lexington so they got their only win this season and finish 1-6 overall. Both teams go into a newly formed 1A/2A league for the 21-22 season and it will be hard for them to be top three with Thomasville, North Rowan and Salisbury sitting at the top as the teams to beat in the new mixed league.
Lexington Yellow Jackets lost to West Davidson and have two tail whippings coming the next two weeks to finish 0-7.
