Conference/Record: Catholic So Meck 8 4A 5-1(2-0)
Olympic So Meck 8 4A 2-4(0-2)
Last Week: Catholic 46-12 W over Harding
Olympic 31-24 L to Ardrey Kell
Series Began: 1966
Series Record: Catholic leads 15-8-1
Well this may be the last time at least for a while that the Cougars and Trojans square up. Often this game settled the conference championship especially from 2005-2012.
As of late the Trojans haven't been what they once were, but that is no reason to sleep on the Trojans this year.
Olympic can score as they've proven that vs Providence putting up 44 and nearly beating Ardrey Kell for a second straight year losing 31-24.
As for the Cougars they are coming off two blowout wins over Berry and Harding. Catholic has really played well since their opening week loss to Christian, however I believe Olympic will be the best team they have played since Christian. Not saying they are on that level, but the Cougars opponents have not been strong since.
One area that I think is strong is the Cougar defense. While Olympic can score in bunches the Cougars defense has developed a knack for forcing turnovers. Especially the secondary who is led by James Hurney and Adam Robbe both with 3. Robbe is just a sophomore.
One area that will be interesting to see is if the Cougars have fixed their issues in terms of getting to the QB, according to Max Preps they have only 6 sacks as a team. Now those may be wrong, if not then they will need to correct that before facing South Meck and especially West Meck.
I think the Cougars offense is clicking though, however the Cougars did lose Angel Morrero for the season with a broken leg, but depth at RB is strong this season so I don't think it'll affect Catholic as much as some think. However, it's still a big loss for the Cougars.
I also expect Brady Berger to have another solid outing, he has really progressed well since week 1. John Newman and Jimmy Abate are having solid seasons, and now that Morrero is done for the year look for Adam Hackett to contribute more.
All in all I expect a Catholic W on the road at Olympic. Not sure on a spread, but if Catholic plays their game I can see it being 2-3 scores.
