Cardinal Gibbons High School will join the 4-A classification at the start of the 2015-16 athletic year.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association approved Cardinal Gibbons' request during the Association's Board of Directors meeting Thursday morning in Chapel Hill. The Board voted 12-5 in favor of the change.

The Crusaders, who have been a member of the Big Eight 3-A Conference for the past two years, will join the PAC 6 Conference. The Big Eight members approved the release and the PAC 6 approved the addition.

The school currently has 4A numbers and expected to grow larger. One conference is approves them leaving and the other welcomes them in. Taking that why was the 12-5 to approve the motion. That should be unanimous.

An issue would be the conference they are being added to. The school is just west of NC State but will be with Durham/Orange/Person schools. Wonder why not moving to a Wake County conference??

C. Gibbons only has one team to worry about in Football in the Pac 6, (Hillside) where as if they played in the 2 Wake Co. conferences, the competition is much greater.
They will continue to win in Volley ball, golf, and a few more sports.
The Big Eight had to many football powers to compete with.
C Gibbons could not compete in wrestling, Orange dominates that sport.
Nor in Baseball, Orange again is top dog.
Orange has been tough in Boy's basketball for several years now, and look to keep on winning.
Softball has Cedar Ridge, Northwood, N Vance, C Hill and Orange that is tough.
Girls basketball is dominated by Chapel Hill.
