Burns @ South Point

I called the tight end hot by SP

BUT WHAT ARE YOU DOING fullback dive from the 3 to win the game (2 point conversion) when the toss sweep has guranteed 5-7 yards all night... Burns holds on the 2 point conversion lead 28-27 less than minute to go

I guess its easy to call it sitting in the recliner so ill shut up

Great opening season game to watch.... Best of luck to both rest of way (Well cept for one game)

I think they should just fire the coach SL.

I’m not sure I’d done any better calling a game as a coach but I would have kicked a field goal when we turn it over on downs. And I assure you I would have kicked the extra point at the end

And just like that, Burns wraps up at least second place in the conference! You got to kick the extra point with the entire season on the line.
Neither one of us will beat Shelby. I know it was the first game of a weird season, but I don't think either one of us showed that we could beat Shelby this year.

You may be right. I’ve heard the talk. I haven’t seen em play. I’m not saying they won’t beat the crap out of SP but it ain’t over till it’s over. Of course it might be over!

Very true. You guys have the style of offense that can beat anyone. Ball control. And with a new QB at the helm for Shelby, you never know.

Yeah South Point should’ve kicked but I’m not complaining. After Crest and Freedom in 2012 and East Rutherford in 2015 I’m glad to be on the winning side of that situation for once.

You might have noticed that at the beginning of the game we were going for two. (And failing). Then suddenly we kicked the field goal to tie the game and the extra point on the last TD. I can confirm that our kicker (Camacho) is on the soccer team. They had a game at Chase that was rescheduled from Monday and so he did not arrive until at some point in the second half. You gotta remember it’s a long drive from Chase to South Point. If he had been there the whole game the Bulldogs could’ve been winning 21-14 at the half. Those missed two point conversions nearly cost us the game. That and the fumble on the first drive.

I told a buddy that playing South Point in football is like playing Virginia in basketball. The offenses are just so similar to me. They grind it out. Both offenses are tough to play against. And it’s so hard to win in Belmont. We hardly ever had the ball in the third quarter. We hardly ever got it going on offense that quarter. And that’s with the 70 yard run by South Point.

It was a great game, the only issue I had was the lack of audio on the stream! There is absolutely no excuse for it. Burns’ stream is much better. Luckily the What’s Up Shopper scoring updates, the guy who showed the score during the stream and Calvin’s play-by play on Twitter helped me out with my updates. They were much appreciated.

WAY TO GO BULLDOGS!

You have to remember the Shelby offense was really good last year and has lost 10 starters.Defense should be stout but also lost a great middle linebacker in Hollifield.Way to early to call.

Our problem SHS Lion, we don’t play y’all till the end of the season. Shelby will have plenty of time to work out the offensive kinks before they see the Red Dog. It looked to me like SP’s defense will be the weak link in Belmont

I think everybody has to get fine tuned. Burns lost 3000 yards of offense last year due to graduation. Our QB saved out butts last night big time. Nobody is gonna just stop SP. they do what they do very well. Shelby has to replace probay 5000 yards and that’s gonna be hard to do for anybody. I think we all are a wait and see situation right now. Glad we done with Belmont this year. Good game last night!

I caught the end of it. Coach Hodge was asked to comment after the game. He said he did what he thought was best for South Point and that you couldn't go through life being afraid. He'll probably get criticized by some but I think what he said took courage. The kind of courage I've seen come out of Belmont. Congrats to two fine programs.

Lincolnton your right, I guess. If he had been successful, I wouldn’t have said a word. Still I wouldn’t have done it that way. Of course SPHS didn’t hire me to coach the varsity football team either. 😮

My friend, If you offered some criticism I didn't notice it. I have no doubt that you are a loyal member of the raider family and you can criticize. Right now, in my life, any show of courage seems admirable if it ain't done for dishonest reasons. I probably think that way because I have been afraid so many, many times over the last half century that any show of bravery is refreshing. Believe me, what I put on there wasn't towards you.

Lincolnton, you always seems to keep me in line. I did not take what you said as an attack toward me. I have criticized Coach Hodge. The difference is he is a high school football coach and I’m just an old man that likes to complain when my team doesn’t win. I hope he becomes a twenty plus year SP head coach that’s as successful as any coach in the state!

Curious question for all you Red Raiders. Does SP always only have video and no audio in their broadcast? Or was it just some technical issue last night? Was

It’s a video stream only. SP doesn’t broadcast their games on the internet. Only audio. Apparently the school didn’t know how to connect the radio crew with the video stream. Crest video feed with Andy and Tim Foster was outstanding. Only issue was Rob Ruppe was missing. Crest fans are blessed to have an AD and principal willing to put it all together for us fans

Would have rather been in the stands but that was better than nothing. Burns QB is a good one. SP hung in there and I don't ever blame a coach for going for the win when it takes one 3 yard play. I would have prefer something wide but not my job.

I hear you raidertime. I figured pregame we’d be lucky to stay within 3 touchdowns. NC Preps had Burns ranked #3 in the state preseason. South Point might be better than I originally gave them credit.

SP at home (I would have gone for 2)... probably at least a 75% chance they get it. I don't believe the Raiders have that gifted athlete in the back field they usually have, but they are good (as usual).

Coach Hodge made the right decision . He showed his players he had confidence in them. That decision to go for the win will pay off down the road. This is the kind of coach kids will play for. At least I would . You play the game to win. If South Point converts the ballgames over you never not take advantage of controlling your own destine. If you kick the extra point , which is not a gurantee in highschool football. Playing for Overtime is a good way to lose.

Agree, especially at home. That was most def a good call.
