Another program that hasn't been the same for the past 15 years. That was an athlete School football and basketball. They were fun to watch, but redistricting busing killed their athletic program. They did win 5 games last year and made the playoffs. Another Reidsville vs Cummings were classic match ups. Hopefully, Cummings will find a way to return to glory. How will they do this year?

They probably will finish high in their conference because the conference is terrible. The only good win they had last year was against St Paul’s in the first round of the playoffs. Wins against East Chapel Hill, Bartlett Yancey, Graham and Carrboro. Weak teams. Weak isn’t the word for them, actually.

They make the playoffs with a low seed, they go out in round one. They’ll probably still win 4 games.

If that big Wr would have stayed at Cummings, I think they could have won 6 games. Still a bad team, but better than what they have been.

. . . but redistricting busing killed their athletic program.

What redistricting and busing? I've lived in Alamance County since 1991 and had boys in the ABSS since 2000 but don't remember any redistricting even after the two school systems merged.

That was what I was told by a reliable source. Cummings don't get the athletes like they use to.

Back in 90s they were good. Whiteville went to their place and Earnest Tintin was QB. He threw 6 or 7 TD ,but Anthony Southern ran for 6. Southern went on to play for Virginia . Score was 50 -49 Cummings. Hell of a game. What has happened to all the schools, used to be powerhouse each year?

Demographics totally different now.

That would be an understatement in the ABSS. Western and Southern have enrollments that are over 75% white. Meanwhile, Graham and especially Cummings, have enrollments where hispanics are the majority. And let's face it, hispanics haven't historically been big participants in football.

Going to be more of that. In this county, soccer is big now. White kids playing that more here in Columbus County. Best athletes are playing baseball, travel ball all year. It's a full time job for these baseball players.
Big time money too,for travel ball. Hispanics are big in Wake County now.

This. 48 % of the enrollment is Hispanic. 46% combined black (38%) and white (8%).

This is not really the case. It's a different story in Texas and California, even parts of Florida. Maybe these are new first generation immigrants where youth football(American) is not as popular nor accessible where they're from.

where running into the same problem here at Mountain Heritage our enrollment is about 650 with quite a few Hispanics that don't play football and we have a very small black community we may average no more than 2 black kids on our roster if we could some how get that number up to about 40 percent I believe we could win a state championship the few black people that do live here there family's have been here for generations and they are some of the best people I've ever met anybody that knows anything about football knows that black athletes are just bigger and faster that's just the truth coming from a white boy ,but here at Heritage we do have some Damn good athletes ,but we win ball games in the trenches.but we could be on another level if we had a larger black community but living on top of a mountain is not everybody cup of tea.but I'm proud.of what our boys have accomplished of the last decade I do belive our coach is one of the best in the state .he sure has worked mericals here we used to be everybody home coming game..
