Brevard @ East Rutherford

You guys are playing Eastern Randolph, my man, not East Rutherford.
I remember Brevard playing a very good Eastern Randolph team many years ago, but did so without their stud leading rusher Manny Deshertuers (sp?) who was injured in their first round game against North Rowan....So it's interesting that we fast forward a few years later, and here are the Bluedevils once again playing the Wildcats with Manny's son now playing....
It didn't end well the last time the Bluedevils made the trip to Ramseur for that 2nd round matchup, so it will be interesting to see what happens with this first round matchup in Brevard....

I think the first bracket out had East Rutherford. How did Smokey go from small to big? I think that is what bummed up Brevard. Good luck.

Seems I remember Burton Cates was the coach the last time these two teams met?....
Might have been coach and is again.
ER can sometimes put up a few points. Have two good senior running backs. Junior QB who doesn't turn it over often and can spin it pretty well. One WR being looked at by some big schools. Offensive line is not huge but schemes pretty well.
Defense is not large on line either but very quick to the ball. Large offensive line (Wheatmore) did give them some trouble.
Kicker has been good for last couple of years, out to around 40 yards FG and lots of touchbacks.
Hope it is a better game than 90% of posters think it is going to be.

Brevard has size up front on both sides of the ball and speed in their secondary and at skill positions. They'll hit you in the mouth too. I'll be surprised if they don't win at home.

Yep I have now become that guy who goes only to home games because it's seven miles away!
Brevard started streaming the games live this year, so people could watch the game from their home, but I don't know if that is still an option for the playoffs or not....The game will likely still be carried over the internet at wsqlradio.com if you can't attend....

If you're talking about the ER game with Manny being hurt Rick,that game was at Brevard.
In 1997, Brevard finished the regular season 8-3, and was seeded 5th in the 2A bracket....Your Bluedevils beat #12 seed Statesville in the first round 23-14 in Brevard before losing on the road at 4 seeded Eastern Randolph(25-22) in the 2nd round....I was attending the Rosman/Thomasville 2nd round playoff game on that night, so you are probably right that it was 1999 when Manny got hurt, and not 1997?
Manny was a Senior best I remember when he was injured in the first round, so it probably was in 1999 when Brevard beat North Rowan 61-33 in the first round in a game that I attended, and the Bluedevils beat Avery County 45-20 in the 2nd round before losing to Eastern Randolph 13-6 in the 3rd round in another playoff game that I attended, so it probably was that 99' season because Rosman was playing at Starmount that night, and I didn't make that trip but instead went to the Brevard/North Rowan frist round game, so that was probably when Manny got hurt, and you are likely right that it was in Brevard because Brevard finished the regular season unbeaten(11-0) in 99' as they also did in 1998 when they lost to Shelby in the 2nd round(28-7), and finished the season 12-1?
I had forgotten that Brevard played Eastern Randolph twice in a span of 3 years during that time, losing both with 1 on the road and 1 at home....
This old man has a hard time keeping up with Rosman, so it's very possible that I could be mistaken about Brevard...lol!

Not disputing that the young man mentioned above was hurt in 99 but...
Was told by a man who played for ER that season. Said the young man played that game and going in was like 86 yards short of breaking a rushing record. Said he didn't get those 86...

Yeah, Manny played that night, but I don't think that he was able to play the week before in the 2nd round win over Avery County....Don't know to what extent that he hurt his knee against North Rowan, but he was not at full speed after that....He was a hellava RB for the Bluedevils, and played College ball at Western Carolina, and he did own the WNC rushing record for a few years before a kid from A.C. Reynolds broke it....Eddington I think?...Not sure where Manny's rushing stats rank statewide today?

Any updates on streaming or internet radio availability? Sportstone on the ER end of things is covering teams playing at home. Checked out the wsql website and the game isn't listed, doesn't mean anything just trying to get something planned before 730.

I also was at the 1999 game Manny wasn't a hundred percent but what i remember was how big Er linebackers were and how they loaded the box and dared Brevard to throw which wasn't Brevard strong suit. I remember one but i think it was two of Brevard Qb wide receiver screens being picked off and ran for touchdowns which was difference in the game.
It was one of those linebackers who gave me info on that game...
He still a pretty big boy.
