I asked my Daddy if he had ever seed a bad fight on the football field. He said in 1955 or 1956 or somewheres around there, that Laurinburg HS went to Tabor City to play. He says the field is still there right behind a elementrey or middle school. Anyways, in the third quarter, both teams went to a fighting and the coaches and the parents all went on the field a trying to stop the fighting. He don't remember many parents a fighting, but the teams were in a real brawl. Then the police chief, a fellow by the name of Long. went to the middle of the football field and shot his pistol up intos the air. Well, this here woman from Laurinburg, by the name of Lucille Chance, then took the pistol away from the police chief and said, "Damn, man, don't you know these is just younguns?" That broke up the fighting. The game was not finished and Daddy don't remember if anybody won the game or the fight, but he remembers Ms. Chance hitting a wrestler with a Pepsi bottle at Legion Park one time. He said she used to play football for McColl High School, but she didnt weigh more than about 135 lbs. He also said Tabor City got in more fights and was for a time barred from a playing football. He said Tabor City was called "Razor City" by some people. Thats what my Daddy said about that.
