A thread was started back at the beginning of the season about where is the best football in the state played?

The teams answered it.

There will be two Western Finals held 4 miles apart this Friday night....Shelby and Crest. No contest....the best football is in Cleveland County.

Craven County. Fifteen miles separate the 3A Havelock Rams and the 4A New Bern Bears. Five combined titles since 2007. Might be bringing back more hardware to CC in a few weeks.

th

Shot out to Shelby Football. #1 Little boy Football in North Carolina.

That's impressive. Both Shelby and Crest played in state championship games last year with Shelby winning their's.

Since 2001 - 11 State championship appearances and 5 titles.

Both will probably return this year.

This stuff about Shelby and Crest keeps on popping up. I think there's someone in Cleveland County who's craving validation.

Yes, I'd say the Charlotte area. So you guys from Shelby and Crest aren't far from it.

The 2A forum is well and running. As you can imagine, there are nine topics regarding Shelby on the first page.

Meck County schools are either in 4A or 4AA. Three of the four slots are filled by Meck County schools. The other by Lake Norman which is in a bordering county.

Out of 16 western slots. Meck County or bordering counties have nine of those slots.

4A: 4 of 4.
3A: 3 of 4.
2A: 2 of 4.

Meck has three.
Union has two.
Cabarrus has one.
Gaston has one.
Lincoln has one.
Iredell has one. (EDIT to add LKN. Thanks Champ24 for the catch.)

Draw a line from Wilmington to Kinston and go about 50 miles east and west of that line. You will have 9 out of 32 teams playing this week.

Hoggard
New Bern
Havelock
Eastern Wayne
SW Onslow
Clinton
Wallace-Rose Hill
James Kenan
Lakewood

Not bad for a sleepy little SE section of the state. Gotta add 12 out of 32 teams playing this week are east of I-95 even though only 15% of states population lives there.

There are THREE Meck Co teams that will be playing in big boy Western Finals this week-end...Mallard Creek, Vance and Catholic.

That's pretty weak compared to the best county.

Since 2000, Meck Co has had 17 State championship appearances and won 13 titles. And 11 of those were big boy titles, unlike those also-ran awards that Cleveland Co has been racking up and bragging about.
