Best defense in 1A

Mount airy until proven otherwise
Yeah is have to agree. Lost a linebacker, a 3 tech and a corner that's it. Replacing the 3 with the freshman who came in and had 12 tackles 2 sacks and a blocked punt in state championship, the corner with a 6 1 kid that can fly . He was a beast in JV last year. Not looking good for the offenses up here this way.

Swain had a pretty good D last year, if they take a step forward this year they could be one of the top.
I have seen a lot of articles talking about Swain’s stout D but then say the offense struggles? Just getting used to a new coach and offense with the skill players they have? Or did they have to rebuild that side of the ball?

Swain has run the Veer since the 70's and with a new coaching staff and new offense they just couldn't get it going or even a 1st down last year, It was pitiful to watch. I'm interested to see what changes are made to the offense and if their a heavily run team but if they come out into 4 WR set I don't see their offense improving.

Honestly I wish it was a rebuild instead of watching them squander some real good athletes, has to be one of the worst offensive units Swain has fielded statistically.

Very seldomly is there a 1a mountain school effective with a pass heavy offense. The new HC has brought a bunch of coaches from different areas and they all like the shot gun. Hopefully the offense will run through Collins and Glaspie and use play action off of that.

If my memory is correct, Mt Airy defense has held all opponents to 5.8 points per game over the past two years.
They return all but 4 starters (I believe) and have some really strong replacements for them.

What they do this year could settle the argument: If this one of Mt Airy's best ever or are they just very good.
I am certainly not taking anything for granted and neither should anyone else. Southeast Randolph, Tarboro, 2A East Surry and North Surry, Starmount, 3A Ashe County, etc certainly will not.

Southeast Randolph? That's mighty high praise for our middle school.

If I mistook the name of a very fine school and most excellent opponent, I apologize. I assure you no disrespect was intended.
Chute just playing sit. He knows you meant nothing by it. The middle school that feeds the high school, and yes there is only one, is Southeastern Middle. The HS is Eastern Randolph.
Just to be mentioned is an honor. Momma used to call me several names before she hit on right one. Now I understand why 👍

Talk about time to fire a coach. Y’all should have gotten rid of him when you had the chance

Was this the only change in 1A schools for this year? Do you all check or change schools for increase or decrease in students every year or individually or all schools every set amount of years?

How does it affect scheduling?

Seem to me it wouldn't change anything for the SMC.
Realignment often changes conference makeup. That in itself affects scheduling. Especially if the number of teams in the conference changes. Schools often are jockeying for position in a particular conference (or to get out of one) mostly due to gates and rivalries.

Why?
It will be same teams.
Split conference
Are all the schools close enough in size for that? I honestly don’t know but would think there would have to be no more than 400 students difference between the smallest and the largest with seven classes.
