Well week 1 is here, this what all us fans been waiting for. I don't know much about Franklin besides they a run first team. Does any one know how many starters they return? AHS looked good on opening drive vs Murphy scrimmage scoring in four plays, and looked better at Daniel on Friday which is usually a good team in SC 3a ball.
AHS 35
Franklin 24

This game is very concerning to me because of the Murphy scrimmage and because of where we are playing. In the Murphy scrimmage we had tons and tons of penalties. Also, in the last 16 years we have played at Franklin 4-5 times and I bet our longest play from scrimmage is 6 yards because every time we get more than 10 the refs throw a flag. The "pit" is notorious for bull s*it calls.

I have no idea what to expect from Asheville and I know nothing about Franklin. But I have a feeling its gonna be a good close game.

With this being Asheville's first game under the spread and being at Franklin I will say the Cougars by 6. You can expect some home cooking as far as the refs go..

Nice doubletalk. "...we had tons and tons of penalties" in your scrimmage and then later accusing the refs of being one sided at Franklin. So those penalties were legitimate against Murphy, but they won't be worth calling at Franklin?

Teams that hustle and are disciplined commit less penalties. If you don't like the flags called on you, work on those two items first. People complain about the officiating at Franklin, but not many of the teams that come to play us have the discipline and hustle the Brooks brothers have instilled in their program. I don't think our away games are any different than our home games as far as penalty differential is concerned.

As far as the game, I'm excited to see how Asheville looks under new leadership. I'm looking forward to seeing how our new quarterback responds to the challenge of his first start being against a traditionally physical and athletic defense. He is a better thrower than our last quarterback, but probably not as athletic.

I am looking forward to the game too. Its just that the pit has a reputation. I remember in 2007, we made it to the 4th round and we lost that season in Franklin thanks in part to 4 helmet to helmet penalties. We didn't have a single one in any of the other 13 games that year, but we had 4 in that game. How is that possible? Thats horse sh. I hope for a well officiated game. If we lose so be it.

As far as football goes, I watched Asheville move the ball well against Murphy. Even though they are now spread, the back looks shifty and quick. He is a threat and great option. QB threw it pretty well I thought.
I can't believe Asheville has waited this long to run spread. By that same token, I laugh at some of the programs that are trying to run it.

I, along with MANY Asheville fans believe had Asheville been one of the first teams to go to the spread instead of one of the last, we would have had multiple state championships during the last decade and a half. Crezdon butler Michael Byrd Johnny white Rahkeem Morgan jave jones and Giovanni McKnight in the spread offense would have been scary.
Franklin operates very well in the I formation because they always have strong line play and are typically not as speedy as some teams so they rely on their strength, literally. You'd be hard pressed to find a team year in and year out that plays as hard as Franklin. However if I see a helmet to helmet penalty Friday my head is going to explode

I work in Franklin and them boys told me rabun looked better and win. Franklin fans told me Franklin looked bad.

Found a little blurb with little info that said 2Q scrimmage & Franklin lost 24-14. There QB is preseason all state in GA 2A.

What I've heard is that our secondary is still learning how to play the game. Mintz from Cherokee tore us up and Rabun had a pretty good quarterback as well. I think most scrimmages (and all 7 on 7s, for that matter) limit the pressure you can put on the quarterback so in a real game we may fare better in that regard.

If this spread for Asheville involves chucking the ball around much and our secondary is still figuring things out, we might be in for a long game. Hopefully it will make us better and not defeat us down the road.

If you Franklin guys are concerned about your secondary that could be a plus for us. Last year makaius Brewer caught 2 passes against Franklin for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns and he's back again and is a big target. Unfortunately for him we decided to completely ignore him after that game in 2015 for some reason.

Should be a good game that can go either way. It will take Asheville a while to get comfortable offensively, but I look for Brewer to have a big year in the new offense. If Devon can get the ball to him he may be the best wide-out in WNC.

To win at The Pit a team has to play a clean game. Limit penalties and turnovers to a bare minimum. Reports are that Asheville has been sloppy in those areas and a team like Franklin will take advantage of it quickly. Skeptical AHS can ply a clean enough game to beat Franklin at home. I'll take Panthers by 7

I've heard Avl appears disjointed and that doesn't bode well in the Pit. I pick Franklin.

I find this thread kind of funny. I even predicted Asheville could get upset in this game but it is not like Franklin is playing some smc team or something. This is arguably the best program, and definitely the most athletic in WNC they are playing. I think it will be close, but I would not be surprised in any way if the Cougars take it to them as well. Wish I could check this one out.

Even though I am always a Franklin homer, I share BD's outlook. On this and other boards I think commenters are being kind to Franklin. We will be good, especially as the year goes on, but we have a lot of youth in important places and I feel we are very vulnerable to getting burned on a few mistakes.

Hopefully our year in/year out strength of being a sledgehammer style offense works out pretty well.

We played horrible the first half. I'm embarrassed. Hope we get something going. This O is taking awhile to figure out

I thought this might happen. Franklin got Asheville at the perfect time. They will be fine

Dropped balls all over the place. Two TOs. And a bad snap punt that they covered on the 10. We looked good before half. We got ball hope we can do something
