After being down 21-0 in the first half and struggling mightily to adapt to their new offense, Asheville High beat Franklin by outscoring the Panthers 29-7 the rest of the way. I know multiple people who turned their radios off and a couple of guys were on their way to the exits in Franklin before the comeback began. I was on the other thread ready to jump ship already. While this team is not as talented as some teams in years past, they showed some major heart tonight to be able to come back down 21 points in a place like Franklin. It sounds to me like this offense is the complete antithesis of what we have seen from Asheville the past 16 years. After watching how pathetic and apathetic Asheville was last year, its refreshing to know that those guys dug deep when things were going horribly to pull out a win in a hostile place against a very good team. Some people are/were not sold on the spread and some people are, but the good thing about the spread offense is you can make up big deficits when you are a passing team. In years past, Asheville was not built to come back from big margins. The I formation and being a power running team certainly has its benefits, as does the spread. Devon Davidson had a hell of a game after he was really let down early in the 1st half by his receivers who dropped damn near everything. While we were lucky to escape from the pit with a win, I'm very happy to see how the players responded and handled the adversity.

Coach Metcalf is the man. Asheville is lucky to have him; definitely one of the best assistants in the state. Lots of gutsy calls on third and fourth down. Hats off to Franklin, they played well enough to win but the 2 missed field goals was the difference.

We looked really bad the first half, I don't know what was said at half but that was a different ball team second half.

Congrats on the win guys! Really tough pill to swallow as a Panther fan. Your team showed a lot of heart & never quit. Was a wild one and I can't say that we didn't have our chances. I think as you grow into the offense you will be fine. Some positives for us are that we also never quit and this is by far the most balanced I've seen us on O under Brooks. Both of us have work to do on D & taking care of the rock. Good luck the rest of the way........oh and the infamous "Pit" refs were a non factor in this one!

We got lucky that they missed the short field goal with 5 seconds left, but for us to claw our way back and take the lead after having 5 turnovers at Franklin is something to be proud of. Davidson threw for 333 yards and if it wasn't for 5-6 drops in the first quarter it would have been 400. I don't think there is any chance in hell that Asheville team last year would have come back from 20 down at the pit. It's nice to see us keep fighting.

Fabulous football game. GREAT effort by both sides. We were just about to leave when Franklin was about to go up 35-8. Then the fumble and the rest was history. My son says its a top 3 game he ever watched lol. Well worth the drive and a $ 7 ticket

Yeah, we've caught flack for that $7 ticket. I guess we're selling a premium product.

For those of you that were at the game. (i wasn't) what happened in the second half? Franklin gashed us pretty good in the running game in the first half, did you guys continue to do that even though we started stopping it in the second half? It seemed like we couldn't stop you in the first half but we did in the second, just wondering what happened

Changed your tone a little from Friday night Ahscougar1....;)

"I think the bottom line is, Asheville doesn't have the speed, the size or the drive we used to have. I love coach metcalf and this offense but we just don't have the horses we are so used to seeing. Dating back to last year this is going to be our 3rd loss in a row. I don't think we have lost three straight games in 15+ years. Granted it is just one game, but you couldn't really ask for a worse start to the season, especially following the 2015 debacle. I hate to even think it, but the football we fans were used to seeing in a 10 year span several years ago is nowhere to be found anymore. Just don't have the talent we used to"

I had to give you a hard time a little...Congrats on the win.
