I'll be darned. PG broke out the brooms tonight. Girls won 40-34 while the guys won a 44-43 thriller. I'll have a little more detail tomorrow.
Asheboro at Providence Grove

The girls game was hard-fought, nip-and-tuck all the way. The main difference (IMO) was the play of PG freshman guard Mailey Way. She was an absolute terror on defense and hit some big buckets. She was giving the Asheboro guards all sorts of trouble.
The PG girls are now 5-0. I'm very pleasantly suprised.
Asheboro is in total rebuild mode. Their guards have a lot of growing to do. They do have a nice player by the name of Sion Murrain. Murrain is around 5-9 and is very athletic and graceful. She just seems to glide everywhere. Definitely a college prospect.
Tatiana Anderson had a nice game on the boards for the Blue Comets.

In the boys game, Asheboro was up by around seven in the fourth quarter. Then, PG went on a run sparked by Zane Caudle. Caudle wound up hitting a three from the left corner pocket to put PG on top with around 20 seconds left. Asheboro came down and had a chance to win but airballed the final shot. Great win for PG.
PG played some really tough, physical defense in the fourth. That was another big key to their victory.
As for Asheboro.........it's your typical Asheboro team. Decent athleticism across the board, couple of decent shooters, couple of steady post players. They have a guy named Jerquarious Stanback who has some nice potential.
I kinda hope these two meet in the Christmas Tourney championship.

Looking at Asheboro's non conference schedule, they're playing nine ( 9 ) 2-A teams, one ( 1 ) 1-A team, and a 3-A team, Western Alamance, ( a squad that will probably finish less than .500 for the season,) for their non conference schedule. Some things never change.

That's a very good question, GSO. I can understand them not playing Trinity or Wheatmore. But Asheboro and ER NOT playing each other?? That's unfathomable. I mean.......we're arch-rivals and all.
