Shelby by how much? Ashe comes in 10-2 which is a surprise and their 2 losses were to watauga and POWERHOUSE(HAHA). Does Ashe have a chance?

As a wise man once said, the greatest in the world can be beat on a given night. So yes. But will Shelby probably win? Also yes.

Shelby's offense must play better than last night for the Lions have a chance.

I was shocked to see ashe at 10-2. Not sure who they played but much better then last year. I am thinking 49-21 shelby

Shelby’s strength is their DB’s. We also seem to play better against other spread teams. Should be an interesting game.

First time Ashe got out of the first round in a while isnt it....usually gets knocked out by a lower seed

Ashe has a solid strong back, that doesn't mind hitting the hole hard. Ashe plays in a very weak conference and they too are usually pretty weak, but were head and shoulders above everybody else this year. Ashe defense is not good. Shelby 48 Ashe 20

Just a few years ago they got to 2nd round when they barely beat an avg Joe Maiden team then got WAXED by Monroe in Jefferson. This game may be closer than that one but end result is a Shelby win whether it be 1 pt or 50.

You know you can’t expect much when below avg / below .500 Mtn area teams score 3 TDs or better on ya every game even when you win. I give Ashe credit they are tough but I’m a realist.

They are really small. The o line didn’t block long. But the q.b got the ballout if there quick. I think they may be a lot like freedom was early in your year. Will not have much of a running game but they will be well coached and won’t hurt themselves a lot. Unless they let the game get bigger than it should be. Shelby does bring that atmosphere with them.

QB for Ash looks really good.

They usually carry a good QB and the coach always has someone groomed up pretty good for an air attack. I’m hoping for an Ashe upset but most likely won’t happen. Way too soft of a schedule however with their wins they mighta played the bench when the other teams put points on them. If an Ashe fan would get on here and verify that that would be great. I know when Hibriten got scored on it was when the JVs/bottom of depth chart players were in the game that will not see any action or rare action after 1st round.

I still expect a Shelby win but this won’t be a team that you can overlook by no means.

Talked to one of Shelby coaches which i asked what he thought he says Ashe has pretty good offense and 2 good LBS.
Now what flim i saw and talking to few people up that way.
I hear there coach is great offensive minded. Looks like offense line is small, but .Qb can get ball out quick. Looks like one pretty good back.
And there D is very avg. Against the 2 best teams tgey played they were blew out.
Now Shelby im sure will come out better this week, coaches know were looked off and flat.
Bess needs to settle down and not throw so hard, i do belive he will have more time this week in pocket.
Shelbys D play much better against a spread team, i see this week being alot better Shelby team.
Need to get more running attack going though.
Im thinking Shelby 42 Ashe 17

That’s crazy to only have that many considering they had more than that sometimes on each roster when there were 3 high schools in the county which really wasn’t that long ago. I think 98 or 99 was last year of northwest Ashe (a bunch of cousins went there) Ashe Central and Beaver Creek. If I’m not mistaken NWAshe played 2A in the 80s. Coulda been cause there was industry and jobs up that way that are no longer there.

It still baffles me Shelby lost to Burns this year. I won’t get that started as I imagine that made a 3 or 4 page thread lol. But I get it, every once in a while a great team will have a fluke game. EL had one with Cherryville in 06’ In 98’ Freedom with EB although they won people thought it’d be a 4 TD victory at the bare minimum (but in 99’ it WAS a blowout)
Hibriten in 10’ with Alexander Central.

I ain’t downing or doubting Shelby not one ounce. It’s an honorable program going way back that my hat goes off to.

And yeah I have to agree, Ashe will be more than wore out. 7 or 8 players prob playing both ways. Can’t keep that up against speed.

It baffles us too.

Why we lost to Burns?
Easy had only 1 returner on offense line in center that played that game. had another which was banged up cant remember if he played much and one with broke leg that was out since 7 on 7.
A new QB which hadnt played a down of varsity football. And a team the coaches will tell u they didnt have prepared. And last a Burns team fired up and ready to knock us off.. And i forgot no running game for us what so ever.
All that spells bad news.
Coaches have done well to adjust and work hard to get where we are. And tge kids have redponded.
Still wish we had little more running ability.

Ashe County has a potent offense on paper - they average 207 yards rushing and 270 yards passing per game...that is a huge 477 total yards per game. Leading rusher (#44) has 1,973 yards and 26 TDs. Their QB (#12) has thrown for 3,182 yards and 39 TDs. Their leading WR (#1) has 59 receptions for 1,344 yards and 15 TDs and they have two other WRs over 650 yards and 8 TDs each.

Shelby averages 75 yards rushing and 271 yards passing per game.

As usual, there is an intriguing match-up...it is Ashe County's passing game versus Shelby's pass defense.

AC averages 270 yards passing per game and Shelby's D only gives up 69 yards passing per game, with 40 sacks, 9 INTs, and 27 passes broken up. Something has to give here.

The winner of this game gets a home game in the 3rd Rd thanks to Pisgah getting upset by East Lincoln.

As of right now it looks like a cold evening...high Friday of 45 with a low of 37...partly cloudy. Rain likely for Saturday, so hopefully it holds off on Friday.

I know what gives!! hint,, its not defense. Those are impressive stats however

How can he not play a down of varsity football when he played in the previous seasons playoffs and the Burns game was not the first game?

Those stats sounds like Shelby’s from 15 and 16. Going to be a tough one.

I won’t be there to see it but just hoping it’s a good game and not a blowout/leave at 3rd quarter. Shelby fans oh the usual and Ashe fans after a long haul travel start back up the hill early.

But in a sense I’d imagine North and East fans are hoping for a Shelby win and not having to go up to Ice block Jefferson lol.

Ashe got those stats in a weak as pond water conference against defenses that didn't even resemble having a pulse...REALTALK.

This will be a shootout, first one to 40 wins.
However you will be impressed by Ashe Co. Head Coach Brian Hampton. If any of you have seen Washington State offense its the exact replica of it.

Just for comparison, in Shelby's Offensive record-setting season of 2015, Shelby averaged 140 yards rushing and 318 yards passing, for 458....Ashe County is averaging 477 this year...
I don't care who you played these stats are scary good. Will be a tough game
Shelby better bring A game to win this one.

Chopper he was never a true starter. And play on jv plus played jv but only limited mins on varsity. And you know what i mean no experience

Ain’t Ashe County where they film one of those redneck cop shows? I was watching it one time and this deputy was looking for a meth lab on a snowmobile with a shotgun slung over his shoulder.. Lot of trailers up there too and fat boys. Ya’ll be good.
