Shelby 9 Cherryville 2

Game wasn't as bad as the score indicated. Cherryville hit a lot of hard balls. If this game was played at Cherryville, there probably would have been 6 or 7 homeruns between the two teams. The key in this game was all of the walks that Cherryville issued. I think Shelby was walked 8 times in 3 innings.

Shelby takes the lead 6-5. Still batting top of 10th. Cherryville has left a total of 8 runners on base the last 3 innings.

Shelby with bases loaded and no outs. Cherryville has had opportunities to end the game earlier but couldn't get the winning run in.

Out 3 Final 10-7 Shelby. Fun ballgame. Shelby takes a 2-0 series lead.

Very uncharacteristic game from both teams. Each team could have and should have won multiple times. If any team can come back from a 2-0 series deficit, it's Cherryville. This series is far from over.

Heart break loss for Cherryville who had the bases loaded in the 7th, 8th, and 9 innings with the winning run standing on 3rd base...just couldn't get the key hit to get it done. I thought they had won it in the bottom of the 7th when a called 3rd strike on a 3 and 2 pitch looked like a ball and would have walked in the winning run. The umpire behind the plate was inconsistent all night....for both teams. Not blaming the umps. Cherryville had plenty of changes to win the game. Their defense was not good..you can't expect to win a game making 7 errors. Worse defense they have played all year....most of the errors were on routine plays.

In their 2-1 loss to Shelby tonight Cherryville again was not able to take advantage of several scoring opportunities leaving 10 men on base. They loaded the bases with 1 out in the 6th and didn't score and then loaded the bases in the 7th after 2 outs and were not able to score.

Congrats to Shelby Post 82. Best of luck to them in the State Playoffs.

That was one heck of a game. We were talking after the broadcast and the series could easily be 2-1 Cherryville right now. Shame one of these teams had to miss out on the state tourney because they are 2 of the best teams in the state.

Couple defensive plays for Shelby were flat out awesome. One was Riley Cheek throwing a rope from the far left field corner as the Cherryville batter was trying to stretch the hit to a double. I thought it was going to be easily the stand up variety, but Cheek didn't see it that way. The other was a play at the plate that got both coaches fired up. The ball was hit to Will Stites in left field who made a great throw to Dalton Putnam who then fired the ball in to the Shelby catcher, Proctor, for the bang bang play. Coach Reynolds was upset because he felt the ump was out of position to make the call and Coach Grayson thought the Cherryville runner came in high on his catcher. It was just an edge of your seat game all night. Big shout out to both starting pitchers. Walls for Cherryville and McNeely for Shelby went pitch for pitch all night.

one year Rowan was more than likely the 2nd best in North Carolina. rowan lost in area finals but host team got in the state tournament. area 3 champion went to (world series) the problem with Pool play there can be a 3 way tie in a Pool and best team can be left out of the next round. another problem with pool play the semi-finals and final is single elimination

Side note it is really crazy to me how the talent can change from year to year! Saw Union County play the past couple of years. Boy was their talent down from last year to this year!
