Any Piedmont info?

My friend who had a kid there last year described them this way back in September- slow, slow, and slow.

We scrimmaged them earlier this year. Grind it out old school style. There offense looks to be in perpetual goal line mode. Crest will stack the box and win convincingly if I had to guess. It works against a lot of teams but it won't against an elite opponent like Crest. But I will say they are good at it.

I saw a little film of Piedmont this afternoon and they run variations on the Wing T formation. All 11 offensive players bunched up together and they run a lot of misdirection and rarely throw the ball. Much like South Point, they run this offense to cover up a lack of athletes and size. Defensively they run a 4-3. They aren't very big but are very scrappy. Crest should win easily but must be physical in the trenches.

I coached against Piedmont this year, and this offense is called the Stampede. Shoe to Shoe splits, double tights and double wings. The fullback is literally facemask to butt of the QB. Not much room to breathe at all. While it may look the same as South Point, they do not run the triple option. They run a lot of counter sweeps, with essentially the guard and tackle pulling on every play. They want to grind you out and use the clock against you. Once you are ahead of them, it is very hard for them to come back. The fullback is the key to the offense and will take you to the ball 99.9% of the time. Crest should have backups in by the 3rd quarter.
