And another one reclassifies....

I'm sorry but can someone explain to me how a high school student "reclassifies". I know I'm an old fart but this is high school right? You get 4 years...period I thought? Please someone educate me because I feel real dumb right now

Not in the private school league. You may "reclassify", similar to going to prep school. Its a growing trend.

Thanks BlueVols for the explanation. Times are changing I guess. It's the me before we generation now and loyalty just doesn't mean much anymore apparently

The Big 4 privates in Charlotte used to get players from public school to come in and they would reclassify. A sophomore goes to the private school and repeats his sophomore year and ends playing high school ball for five years starting with his initial freshman year. The Charlotte Big 4 no longer allow that practice but many privates still do. In some states and with some families they will have a student repeat a grade especially 8th grade to basically do the same thing but stay in the public system.

One thing people should also remember is that in Florida an athlete can play until the day he turns 19 years old and 9 months. A few years ago a top player played through the state quarterfinals but could not play after that due to being three months short of his 20th birthday and still a high school senior. Not unusual there.

I'm not at all familiar with how private schools work. I do know of the age limit and each state is different in that regard as you pointed out with Florida. But, regardless of age, most states I believe have the "4 years of eligibility rule" for the public schools. So it's 4 years of high school or the age limit restriction, whichever comes first would exhaust the student's eligibility I thought. Is that not the way it works??

Christ School
Room and board-$46,255
Day student -$24,545
Any of you think his family paid that?

I think CS 'ships some. My son's 8th grade QB went over there to play baseball.
They raided about half of East Henderson's o line 2-3 years ago.

CS is improving their program. They've been getting some area public school transfers in now for about 4 years or so. They've got Heath Shuler working with the offense. They have also upgraded their schedule by playing some local public schools like Hendersonville.

Can they compete with the Charlotte area privates? Not yet. Davidson Day spanked them in the last state final they played in. Of course DD's QB is presently with the Fla. Gators but appears to be transferring out.
