Deanna,

First of all I think you do a great job. I think both you and Chris Hughes are good at having good websites and keeping us football junkies up to date on all things NC football and other prep sports.

I do however want to try and understand the selections are made for the All State team. I personally have a hard time trying to figure out how, according to multiple recruiting websites, that you leave the best running back in NC off of the all state team Johnny Frasier. I am not saying what you guys do is easy because I know it is not. As I look I notice that there are only 5 guys on the entire offense, defense and special teams east of raleigh and I am including a guy from Garner not named Nyheim Hines which confuses me as well but not as much as Frasier. Honestly the team has a western bias in my opinion I also do not see how you put some of the RB's or Special Teamers ahead of Frasier or Hines....Just my opinion

Western Bias? No one west of Asheville made the list except Avery County kicker.

Nevrmind I was not thinking about the NCpreps all state. I was thinking about something else.

Seems to be an impossible task. Lots of D1 running backs and other players coming out of our state. At least there will be a specific NCPreps 1A All-State Team. Pretty sure he will be on there. I don't think the AP does a team by level do they? It's all just one team. I think NCPreps tries to get a good representation from all levels, all-across the state. There will still be arguments though. I think that speaks well to the quality of football we have now as compared to years ago.

I don't look at the team on an East, West, North, South basis. I don't know why people assume that. We try to put together the best team in our opinion regardless of area, class, or age.

If this is the case then how and why do you leave the best RB according to recruiting websites in NC off the team? I am not saying they are not good or not deserving but when Nick Saban comes to visit you and wants you to come play for him but the same RB can not be an NC preps all state member? Johnny was your pre season player of the year if I am.not mistaken....He should be on he team no question about it..
.

Who do you take off?

Reggie Gallaspy led the state in rushing all year. No brainer.

An injured Bryce Love led his team to the state championship and put up almost 250 yards against the team I consider the best in the state Mallard Creek.

I have nothing but respect for Johnny Frasier. He is a great football player and will do great things at the next level.

This is our site's opinion to go from this year. The RB class was very strong this season.

Other websites and the AP will name there selections as well in the next few days and weeks.

I would have no problem removing either in order to have Frasier on the team. If you are the best and had a great season how can you leave him off. I would have no problem putting Manning from Whiteville in those guy's league.

Delendo,

I understand how you feel, but I have to be real with you here before you really criticize Deanna about her selections. Coming into the season Fraiser was ranked as the best back in the state, but did he actually perform better than RB Reggie Gallaspy @ Southern Guilford and RB Bryce Love @ Wake Forest Rolesville throughout the season? Pre-Season selections are based on what a player did the season before. Another thing those two backs that were selected are highly recruited too. Also think about the level and the league those two backs play in compared to Fraiser. That's the nature of the beast. Get over it and move on

Johnny Frazier got his yards on the 1A level these other backs got their yards on the 3A and 4A level against powerhouse competition huge difference

Frasier ran behind a 1A line so it equals itself out to some degree. Normally at the higher level you do not see as many long breakaway TD runs with more quality athletes on the field.

Nearly 20,000 players played on over 400 teams (including private league) and they picked about 35. A case can be made for a lot of players.

Good that a lot of college HC don't feel the same way. Just think of all the great players they would miss out on.

JohnnyDollar are correct. But for a 1A player to get a D1 scholarship he has to absolutely dominant the kids in his high school classification. As Mr Frazier has done. Plus he passes the eye test for D1 coaches and has the speed to go along with his size. But college dont pick all states. Now I'm pretty sure he will get voted 1a all state. Get picked for NC all state is a long shot because there are so many good back linebackers etc. Somebody will always be left out.

We felt the two selected had better 2014 seasons. There were about 10 RBs that we considered for this. A long time ago when we first started naming an all-state we used to name 2 or 3 QBs and 5 or 6 RBs. People complained about that because they said it "watered down" the award. That's why we started doing an individual class all-state teams.

Hopefully around the first week of January. Working hard on them. Lots of talented kids.

If you are looking at from a numbers perspective then you are right. The other running backs did have better numbers than most of them. The guy from WRH did not however. If that is the case then why was Johnny Frasier not on the team last year when he ran for over 3000? And had over 50 TDs? I cant remember how many rbs had better stats but it could not have been many.

I do not look at it from a numbers perspective. Numbers can be inflated or deflated based on the level of competition, coaches decisions etc. If JF was playing at any school and HAD to play 4 quarters every game his numbers would be some of the best ever in this state. But when you play 14 games and 10 of them are over before half time there is no need to continue to play your staters after halftime..

Elijah Hood was one of the first team running backs last season. His numbers, both career and season, were huge. He did not play in the second half and definitely not the fourth quarter in a lot of games!

Not sure who the other running back was but I would think Nyheim Hines, Rocky Reid, and Derrell Scott would all be in the mix along with Frasier. Like Frasier those guys were not getting big numbers in the fourth quarter. Deanna can tell us who the running backs were.

I am a Frasier fan! He is a great footballer and a really nice young man. Cannot knock the selections of Reggie Gallaspy or Bryce Love. I personally think Gallaspy should have been a utility player or athlete due to actually playing full time on both sides of the ball but his rushing numbers and play were exceptional.

Regarding running back numbers look at Cody Reece of Mt Pleasant which lost in the 2A regional final to Shelby. Over 3,100 yards and 37 rushing TDs. He is not on the team, which I agree with, but his numbers make a statement.

I saw a lot of teams play this year, probably 30 different teams in NC. The best all around player I watched play for his team was Jaire Alexander from Rocky River in Charlotte/Mint Hill. A true multi-skilled athlete / utility player. Scored a defensive TD every possible return way and was deadly at wideout with over twenty offensive TDs. Strong numbers on Punt and KO returns, played some QB and specialist. Made first team AP All State last year at d back.

I do not like QB's always getting the "Athlete" tag because they are dual threat QBs. They play QB. Ladowski did play some d back and return man so he fits.

There was a pinned topic up all year about sending in stats. I didn't receive a lot of special teams stats so I went with what I had on kick/punt returns.

So the two running backs in 2013 were Elijah Hood and Derrell Scott. No argument on either of those. Big time players, big time numbers, big time winners, big time recruits.

Frasier ran behind a 1A line so it equals itself out to some degree.

Not really because that 1A line was blocking 1A defenses.

btango, keep check of all the players mentioned and report back in 4 years as to how all of them did. That is your assignment if you choose to accept it.

No.1 his 1A line blocking a 1A line is what equals it out.

In the process of trying to do some historical all state lists from various outlets such as AP and regional teams.

Looking back through the years on the NCPreps.com All-State team. A few players that made it big-time (NFL)....Greg Little, Wesley Saunders, Chris Culliver, Melvin Ingram, Dwight Jones, Jonathan Cooper, CJ Wilson, David Amerson, Keenan Allen, and Jeffrey Pagan.

Even though I may disagree with a few selections, I do like the way you do it. I admire that you stand and take on all comers.
I do like the fact that there is not fifty players on NCPREPS All State team. If I was grading the body of work a 98% would be in order. If I were a player today and made this all-state team, I would be very proud.

Deana my question is do you think or heard anything regarding the NCHSAA are going to let their state champions participate in the new Burger King High School Championship Bowl that was started this year. The sponsors of the bowl stated they would love to have teams from NC and they don't have to be ranked in the top 25 teams in the country as long as they are a state champion. I realize sometime the NCHSAA can be very conservative in their way of during things compare to other high school association from other states.

No. I think the only state that approved their teams for this was Washington. Not sure but there was not much interest from most states.

There were less than 500 people for the first game. This game would happen two weeks after the state finals on Christmas weekend. Currently 16 total games played plus this one.

No I haven't had anything about it. I don't think the NCHSAA would approve it.

Utah had a team from outside of Salt Lake City,Utah that was a state champion and Florida had three state champions but I believe this bowl is going to grow a lot in the future because teams that want to be nationally champions are going to start sending their teams to the Burger King High School Championship Bowl Games. For you guys who didn't see the game between the state champion from Utah and Booker T. Washington from Florida that game was better than the college games that was on TV at the same time Booker T. Washington the number 3 team in the country had all it could handle before the game went into overtime. The Utah kids were big, discipline, and talent starting three sophomore and one junior on their defensive front four. If the NCHSAA would let the schools play Mallard Creek,New Bern, Crest, and Shelby would be some good can schools that should consider the bowl.

I forgot Bingham from Utah.

I feel confident this will not happen in the near future in NC or most states.

NCHSAA is not football friendly. Not only is their no spring practice, the skills practice has been limited even more. A few years ago a week was taken out of the schedule to make it 11 games in 11 weeks. This was started at the request of winter school sports.

If Cali, GA, Alabama, Louisiana, New Jersey, and Texas do not get on board doubtful this is going to determine national title teams.

Deana, when are the NCPreps 1A and 2A all-state teams going to come out? I noticed the 3a and 4a teams, but didn't see 1a or 2a.
