Since NCHSAA has declared western championships as state champs, I have done a little research for Albemarle. We won western titles in 1944, 1953, 1957 and were co-champions in 1954..So added to our 5 that would give us either 8 or 9 state championships.....Just food for thought....lol

Calls for a special Holiday Christmas Party for the No Class Club!!!!

Hey, it’s not every Christmas you get to add 4 state titles to the Santa list their Buddy. And they came early! You almost have to feel for North Stanly. They have one of their best teams ever, lose in 2nd round, and then the Blue Dogs get 4 more titles! Now that’s a helluva No Class Club toast right there!

This has been determined to be fake news. The poster that started the thread appears to have intentionally posted false information.

Only western titles where a team could not advance to State are included. That would be 1961-1971 ONLY

And, only some of those in the time period. Read the fine print.

From 1961 through 1971, play did not culminate in a state champion in all classifications. Regional champions are indicated by the number of their respective regions in parentheses, or by Eastern and Western champions when that was as far as a team could advance. *indicates co-champions.

I edited to add the fine print.

There are region champions (three or four of these were awarded in some years per classification), regional champions (east and west), and state champions 1A-4A to include sub classes (A and AA). Western North Carolina High School Activities Association were being pushed for to be state titles initially and with little support the "sponsor" of this made the claim that any school that made the playoffs and won the last game they played in should be crowned a state champion. That would include the D-II playoffs from the 1980's, some of which were only a regional final, which was the worst playoff idea since halting the state wide title games in 1961ish.

A long time NCHSAA administrator that originally came from an WNCHSAA school explained that the NCHSAA season ended with region and later regionals titles was due to the schools complaining about the length of the season and the interference with the winter sports season.

You sure know how to rain on a parade, btango...lol

Toby Webb called them "Association" titles. Never heard the word "state champion" come out of his mouth. He used the word "Assocation" as the term for the playoffs as in we are playing in the "Association" and not so much to describe the rival group to the NCHSAA.
